10. Episode 19 of School Rumble Ni Gakki (School Rumble 2nd Term)

school rumble DVD
[Information episodes=" 26 " aired=" April 2006 - September 2006 "]

It’s the second season of School Rumble and the story of delinquent Harima and his crush Tenma continues. Harima finishes his manga script and wants no one else to be the first person to read it than Tenma. But this turns out to be a harder task than expected since he also has to fight through a blizzard and hurry to hand his manuscript over to his editor. Will Tenma finally recognize his efforts and the feelings he has for her? This episode is a really fun continuation of the normal storyline. You still have the same cast fighting the same problems, but the Christmas setting makes it feel more special. You will root for Harima and just wonder how his story will turn out. This special deserves the first spot on our list with lots of laughs, craziness, romance and unspoken love confessions.

9. Episode 12 of Chrno Crusade (Chrono Crusade)

chrono crusade dvd
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" November 2003 - June 2004 "]

Next up is a special episode from an all-time favorite show, Chrono Crusade. For this episode, the main cast takes a break from hunting demonic powers and instead goes out to the streets and performs charity work. The three girls try their best to act according to the spirit of the season, but soon realize that one of them, Azmaria, has in fact never had a real Christmas. They spend her first Christmas together and celebrate the cheerful and charitable side of the season. The atmosphere of this episode is really heartwarming since it shows a different side of Christmas, without all the expensive presents and decorated shopping malls. Maybe it was because of the scene at a local orphanage, but somehow this episode really reminded me of the story of A Christmas Carol. This special definitely deserves a spot on this list.

Chrono Crusade

8. Episode 17 of Azumanga Daioh

azumanga daioh dvd
[Information episodes=" 26 " aired=" April 2002 - October 2002 "]

Fans of school and Slice of Life stories are probably already familiar with the unique girls of Azumanga Daioh. In Episode 17 they get their very own Christmas adventure! The girls get in an argument over Santa Claus and whether he really exists. 10-year-old Chiyo insists that he is real and even goes as far as saying that he is her father. But the Christmas madness doesn’t stop there and the girls spend a crazy day together filled with presents, reindeers, Christmas trees and late-night karaoke. The strength of Azumanga Daioh is the fact that it stays down to earth and really revolves around what the main cast experiences in their everyday lives. This episode is no exception and tells the story of how the girls spend Christmas together. Fans of the anime should definitely rewatch this episode and everyone who is new to Azumanga Daioh should still be able to enjoy the cheerful and easygoing vibe of this special.

7. Episode 31 of Hetalia: Axis Powers

hetalia axis power dvd
[Information episodes=" 52 " aired=" January 2009 - March 2010 "]

They hype over Hetalia might be over, but that doesn’t mean that you should completely forget about these international boys. In their Christmas special the main cast gets together to spend this special day together. Of course they are all their stereotypical selves, depicting exaggerated versions of their nationalities. This episode revolves all around how each boy spends Christmas and how they plan on enjoying their winter holidays. Hetalia has a unique concept and that’s what makes it so special. Each boy has his very own personality and when they all come together you can be sure there will be chaos, fights and lots of fun. This is definitely the case for this special episode which will bring you a little bit closer to the main cast. More importantly, you can actually learn something about Christmas traditions in different countries, so why not give it a try?

6. Episode 22 of Shakugan no Shana: Season II

shakugan no shana dvd
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" October 2007 to March 2008 "]

Let’s move on from comedy shows to a more serious story, with the second season of Shakugan no Shana. Episode 22 explores the romantic side of this anime. I don’t mean to spoiler the fun for those of you that didn’t get to enjoy this show yet, but let me just say that there will be love letters, confessions of feelings and an unexpected twist towards the end, all centered around the romantic setting of Christmas Eve. What makes this episode so special is the fact that it builds up towards the finale of the season. You can already see how the characters are drawn to each other and how everything will soon come to an end. Starting the final chapter of this show on Christmas Eve makes it even more special, so check Shakugan no Shana’s second season out if you haven’t already.

5. Episode 12 of Minami-ke (The Minami Family)

Minami-ke dvd
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" October 2007 - December 2007 "]

The three Minami sisters are not known to take a break and Christmas definitely isn’t an exception. Their Christmas adventure is mostly set at home and really shows the importance of spending this day together with your family and loved ones. Just like in Azumanga Daioh we have a girl who still believes in Santa Claus and a group of friends that enjoys themselves over a delicious Christmas dinner. Minami-ke really brought their show to a nice ending, since the final episode after this special is set on New Year’s Eve. Even though this show might be short with just 13 episodes, by the end of it you will feel connected to the characters; it is episodes like this Christmas special that make this possible. Nothing outstanding really happens, but you can really feel how the sisters care for each other and how much they enjoy spending Christmas together.

4. Episode 7 of K-On!

K-On dvd
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" April 2009 - June 2009 "]

Who could resist the charming girls of K-On!, especially during this snowy winter tale? Most of the episode is told from the perspective of Ui, Yui’s little sister. She remembers how, many years ago, Yui tried to make a white Christmas happen with the help of pillow stuffing. Now, they main cast gets together to enjoy Christmas dinner together and exchange presents. This episode just tells a wonderful story of sisterly love. It is so touching to see how Yui and Ui help each other out and how much they mean to each other. By the end of the episode, as they finally get their white Christmas, you will be filled with all the holiday cheers and feels that are so special to this day.

3. Episode 11 of Lucky☆Star

lucky star dvd
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" April 2007 - September 2007 "]

At least as charming as the girls from K-On! is the main cast of Lucky☆Star. Care to find out how they spend the last days of their year? Trying to sum up everything that happens in this special is a hard task. Lucky Star episodes are a crazy mixture of lots of different events and conversations going on, all held together by the four friends. Their Christmas is shaped by studying for exams, comparing bust sizes, exchanging presents and talks about Christmas cakes and Santa Claus. Maybe it is the fact that this episode first aired in June instead of December that didn’t make it feel forced. It perfectly ties in with the rest of the show and feels like any other episode - with a little bit more holiday feelings and fun. A must-watch for fans of the show and viewers who like to see some innocent Christmas fun.

Lucky Star

2. Episode 22 of Kimi ni Todoke (Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You)

kiminitodoke
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" October 2009 - March 2010 "]

Those of you that have already watched Kimi ni Todoke will certainly remember their Christmas episode. Everyone else should definitely check it out. Sawako’s class is holding a Christmas party and even though she would love to join, she feels obligated to spend the day with her family. Instead, she makes Christmas presents for Chizuru and Ayane as well as - of course - Kazehaya. Just as she has given up on actually getting to spend the day with her friends, a small Christmas miracle happens. It’s hard to describe this episode as anything less than just heartwarming. It is a romantic Christmas story with a beautiful illuminated and snowy setting. Not only that, but we also see Sawako growing up and letting go of her parents. Just like some previous recommendations, this episode sets the beginning for a beautiful ending of the whole show.

1. Toradora! episode 19

Toradora1
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" October 2008 - March 2009 "]

Last but not least we have another Christmas story with the unlikely couple of Toradora!. The Christmas party is finally here and the main cast gets caught up in a love triangle. While Ryuuji tries to cheer up Taiga in a Bear Santa Claus costume he still has feelings for Minori. Taiga tries her best to support him, but soon has to realize that she doesn’t want him to leave her side. How will their story turn out? What made this episode so special to me is, again, the fact that it doesn’t feel forced. In fact, the previous two episodes already revolved around the preparations for the Christmas party and the storyline keeps moving forward steadily. Viewers will get more than just one Christmas episode that immediately leads back to the normal setting. Instead, you get to see how Ryuuji and Taiga spend their holidays together and how their love story finally takes a turn.

Toradora

This concludes our Top 10 List of best Christmas specials. Holiday-related episodes can go one of two ways: they are either boring and feel too forced or will cheer you up with their special flair. It all depends on how much effort the producers put into their work and whether the special actually contributes to the storyline. The shows we have presented above should prepare all of you for the most joyful season of the year. What do you think of Christmas specials or holiday specials in general? Punch Line

Slapstick humour is one of the key elements of Anime comedy. It brings out our inner sadist and can even bring life to a dreary show. All the more if it involves blood! Honestly, what could be better than seeing the protagonist make a fool out of himself, especially if he’s making a move on our waifus (serves them right, hahaha). So if your day is like a loli’s chest (flat and boring) and you’re in need of a pick-me-up, fret not friend! For here is a list of our top 10 anime nosebleeds, to make you feel much better ‘cause someone else has it worse!

One of the biggest and most popular manga and anime series ever, the story follows his journey as he chases his dream of becoming the Hokage. There is no real need to explain Naruto’s best nosebleeds, as we all know his infamous sexy-no-jutsu and its many victims. Just in case, lets recap. The sexy-no-jutsu is a move that is aimed at defeating an opponent by nosebleed. The ninja transforms into a naked girl, making the opponent nosebleed so much that he can’t fight! Needless to say, the sheer length of the anime gives rise to more epic nosebleeds than you can count!

Great animation, an incredible script and wonderful characters, the show lives up to it’s hype! A key element of the show is it’s in-your-face fanservice. However, one day, a choice he makes on his way home from school causes a mysterious, beautiful young girl to fall from the sky, changing his life forever. Despite being a classic harem anime full of cute girls, high school puppy love and awkward situations, Noucome’s comedy factor is exceedingly high. Slap stick humour drives much of the plot and no doubt, nosebleeds receive VIP treatment. They happen so often, ecchi situations don’t even need to be present!

Probably the most popular anime to ever be produced, our story follows Monkey D. Luffy, a 17-year-old boy that defies your standard definition of a pirate. A great story balanced with well-timed comedic moments, it hosts one of the biggest nosebleeds of all time. After years of not seeing a single woman, Sanji, the cook of Luffy’s crew soon finds himself in a mermaid harem. The story centers around a boy named Akihisa Yoshii, who is in the worst class, and his classmates as they battle tests, love, friendship, in an all out war for school supremacy! A true comedy classic, the anime goes all out in the nosebleed gags. For the first time, characters actually need emergency blood transfusions! The pool episode no doubt brought about one of the biggest nosebleeds of the show, who knew two boys could bleed enough to fill half a pool with blood?

Top 10 Bikini Anime Girls

[ad_top1 class="mb40"]
Celty durarara capture wallpaper

The token beach visit or bikini scene in an anime series is a convention of the media, often used as fan service or to help boost the sales of the accompanying bikini figurine soon to be on sale in Akihabara and Nakano. However often, the moment a heroine or loyal companion gets the opportunity to don their cutest swimwear offering can be a moment of pure fun and release. Wearing a bikini shouldn’t be an example of sexual exploitation but a must needed respite for its characters who are confident enough and proud of their womanly physique to enjoy themselves with the kind of activity that everyone has the right to enjoy regardless of gender or their physical appeal. Taking these things into account, here is a collection of the girls in anime who manage to rock a bikini the best, be it due to their personality, the style of the bikini or the situation in which the bikini wearing occurs. How relevant is the bikini to the overarching story and to that characters personal journey. To simply list 10 hot anime girls in a bikini would do a disservice as let’s be quite honest, anime characters are rarely barred a few exceptions, drawn to be unattractive. Therefore we must analyse the use of the bikini scene as well as the overall aesthetic appeal.

10. Suzutsuki from Mayo Chiki

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Suzutsuki Mayo Chiki' anime='mayo chiki dvd']
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Jul 2011 - Sep 2011 "]

Mayo Chiki makes a lot of fun about one of the staples of the anime medium and especially comedies as a whole. That is the sudden occurrence of a male character getting a nosebleed when in contact with an attractive female. Mayo Chiki’s protagonist, Jiro, has the unfortunate condition of torrential nosebleeds and blackouts whenever he makes contact with a female, a condition that entices the most beautiful richest girl in the school, Suzutsuki, to attempt to cure him. While the central story involves gender misidentity with Suzutsuki’s cute butler Kanoe, Suzutsuki takes on the role of mischievous deviant, complete with Lolita style attire. One group excursion in an attempt to ‘treat’ poor Jiro’s condition sees them hang out at a local out door swimming pool. Cute Suzutsuki shocking the blood straight from the nose of Jiro by suddenly appearing in a very low cute and revealing black bikini, in stark contrast to her usual ruffles and high neck lines. This is both attention grabbing and surprising but also makes logical sense in terms of the narrative. By exposing Jiro to attractive girls in a natural and non threatening environment, they hope to cure him of his affliction and allow him to move onto a meaningful relationship with the reserved Kanoe.

9. Lorelei Meroune from Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Lorelei Meroune Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou' anime='Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou dvd']
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Jul 2015 - Sep 2015 "]

Monster Musume is a raunchy comedy anime that makes no attempt to hold itself back with its wild Ecchi humour and minimal clothing for all characters involved, protagonist included. In the bizarrely unique situation of having to house a number of stunningly attractive female/monster hybrids as part of a cross species cultural exchange, ‘Darling’ kun, as he is often referred, eventually rescues a mermaid of royal heritage in her home world. It’s not long after this that a giant pool is installed in his home by the government secret agent in charge of the home-stay, as otherwise she is often confided to a wheelchair while on land. The mermaid’s attire is what you would typically expect from a sea dwelling half human, a bikini. While most of the female monster characters and even the male protagonist himself are often physically exposed to provide comedy and light titillation, her revealing outfit is the only one that makes logical sense from a storyline point of you. If she was to wear normal clothing, it would be a ludicrous situation, only providing comedy for the repeated wet t-shirt moments. This bikini makes the list because not only does she looks fantastic and fulfils many a fantasy, but it also actually makes logical sense in the confines of the over the top story.

8. Takeya Yuki from Gakkou Gurashi! (School Live!)

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Takeya Yuki Gakkou Gurashi' anime='dvd Gakkou Gurashi!']
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Jul 2015 - Sep 2015 "]

The world of School Live! is one of stark contrasts, on first impressions a cutesy moe teen comedy complete with ditsy female character tropes, it is instead one of the best psychological zombie stories told in anime. This is typified by the character of Yuki, who due to psychological trauma caused by the zombie apocalypse and witnessing the deaths of many close friends, acts as if every day is a normal day at school. She attends classes and speaks to classmates as if they are still alive while maintaining an almost sickening level of positive and ‘genki’ attitude. There are many shocking and upsetting twists and turns in the story of School Live!, however sandwiched between them is episode 9, where the four girls decide they need a break form surviving and hit the custom made roof top pool and bare their bikini’s for all the non existent world to see. While this could feel very forced in to meet the anime bikini girl quota, this is actually a much needed break from the upsetting emotional trauma, both for the audience and the characters. At this point Yuki is becoming aware of her delusions and just how dire her situation is, however she encourages the other girls to enjoy themselves and just act like teenage girls for one of the last times. This carefree attitude to wanting to enjoy your adolescence encapsulates Yuki’s character and how her positive attitude is essential to the mental health of her comrades. Yuki splashing and having fun in her obviously cute bikini is a welcome reminder that these girls are only teenagers and how cruel it is that they don’t live in a world that lets them act that way anymore.

7. Kosaki Onodera from Nisekoi

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Kosaki Onodera Nisekoi' anime='Nisekoi dvd']
[Information episodes=" 20 " aired=" Jan 2014 - May 2014 "]

Nisekoi is a fantastic modern love story, complete with Yakuza families and great comedy. Nisekoi focuses on male protagonist Raku Ichijou the son of a Yakuza kingpin, his childhood best friend/sweetheart, Koaski Onodera, and Chitoge Kirisaki whom Raku is forced into having a pretend relationship with due to a gang dispute. What follows is a charming romantic comedy, as Raku and Chitoge can’t stand each other but have to keep up appearances, while all 3 of the characters battle with the mixed emotions of a love triangle. Onodera is a rather shy and demure character who has a genuine love for Raku, and also for her close friend Chitoge, something that makes watching their pretend relationship an obvious burden. Throughout the series she is conflicted as to whether or not their fake relationship is developing into something real. The bikini scenes are poignant in Nisekoi, as it certainly helps to serve as a reminder that while she may not be as immediately glamorous as Chitoge but damn does she look great in a bikini. It is important for Onodera to have these moments of confidence and to notice the effect that this has on Raku to remind her of his true feelings for her.

6. Chie Satonaka from Persona 4 The Animation

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Chie Satonaka Persona 4 The Animation' anime='persona4theanimation']
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Oct 2011 - Mar 2012 "]

Amongst the likes of idol sensation, Rise, and refined Japanese beauty, Yukiko, Chie fills the role of at crude but loyal tomboy. Fiercely protective of her friends in particular the demure Yukiko, Chie is the first to join Yosuku and Yu’s investigation team and enter the TV world to rescue their friend. Chie hasn’t had many friends previously, instead taking on the roll of guardian to Yukiko and accepting this as her primary identity. Throughout the investigations teams growth and the social bonds they form, Chie changes, from an angry adolescent into a budding young women. This is epitomized when the investigation team complete with mascot teddy venture outside of the confines of Inaba and travel to the nearest beach. While the focus may likely be on the beautiful Yukiko and the sexy Rise, Chie’s character development and the surprise shown by the males that, ‘hey, Chie looks kinda awesome in a bikini too’ makes Chie one of the best anime bikini girls. Always having to be tough and having others really on you can be a burden, and to see Chie acting as any teenage girl should and looking perfectly cute while doing so makes her the most honest and appealing female character in the show. While choosing which girl to date in the exceptional video game port Persona 4 Golden was always tough between Yukiko and Chie, I always ended up falling for the kung fu princess!

5. Celty Sturluson from Durarara!!

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Celty Sturluson' anime='Durarara dvd']
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" Jan 2010 - Jun 2010 "]

Long have the rumours and sightings of the fabled headless rider circulated the corrupt streets of Ikebukuro. Little do the average populace now that it’s real and is in fact a female spirit of Irish descent whose head was stolen by a mysterious organisation. Celty is ghoulish female black rider, whose wispy spirit scythe brings justice to any gang members that dare get in the way of her daytime job as a private delivery agent. Celty’s struggle is in fact very grounded and human, she cannot communicate through speech, only through text messages on her smart phone and she lives in constant fear of someone experimenting on her head, essentially ending her life. She finds solace and comfort in her long time friend and later lover Shinra. One of the most surprising bikini scenes in anime, for a short period Celty is seen in an alluring little black number, complete with missing head and wispy smoke escaping from the empty neck. This is almost too much for Shinra, who can barely keep his hands to himself until she punishes him for being too much of a perv. This scene is very crucial in the development of Celty as a character, as it is the first time the viewer realises that she is in fact a women rather than a sheer monster. Despite the fact she is missing her head, she is incredibly sexy. While she obviously chides Shinra for his lustful behaviour, it is also apparent how much she enjoys being desired by the only man that she trusts and loves in the search for her missing head.

4. Umaru from Himouto Umaru Chan

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Doma Umaru Himouto! Umaru-chan' anime='Himouto! Umaru-chan dvd']
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Jul 2015 - Sep 2015 "]

Umaru from the perspective of other high school students or local residents is the perfect adolescent girl, flowing golden locks, striking beauty, intelligent and courteous to everyone she meets. However this façade is dropped the instant she returns home to her humble apartment shared with her older brother. Umaru morphs into a chibi version of herself complete with childlike tantrums, slovenly behaviour, and a love for all things otaku. While a constant strain on her brother, Umaru’s feeling that she must hide her true geek self from the rest of the world is one that can probably resonate with many viewers in particular female’s who are often judged more harshly for displaying such tastes. Towards the end of the season, Umaru has unwittingly formed a number of lasting friendships with other slightly odd ball classmates and has even let her mirage drop on occasion before quickly reverting back to her pristine well mannered persona. The trip to Enoshima Island close to Yokohama and Tokyo is a heart warming one, being the first time she has been on a trip to the beach with friends. Umaru of course looks impeccable in a bikini but to see her having natural fun with her friends without having to put up any barriers is perhaps even more appealing and attractive. The episode feels like a natural evolution of her character and a necessary plot point contributing to one of the summers best comedy/slice of life anime.

3. Asuna Yuuki from Sword Art Online II

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='Asuna Yuuki' anime='sword art online 2 sao2 dvd']
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" Jul 2014 - Dec 2014 "]

Asuna Yuuki is the famous captain of the Knights of the Blood Oath and one of the players responsible for defeating Akihiko Kayaba and releasing the other trapped players out into the real world and away from this death game. Asuna is also the primary love interest and person of support to series protagonist Kirito. If this sounds like a lot of responsibility then your right it certainly is, without taking into account her overbearing family life in Kyoto where she has little freedom to make her own life choices. Arranged marriage, schools, how she is to dress and style herself. All these things are decided for by her mother in a misguided attempt to give her a better life. This makes Asuna donning her exceptionally cute bikini in the virtual world of ALfheim Online all the more poignant. This is the only place in which she is free to be herself and relax with her friends she trusts and with the man that she loves, Kirito. Her mother would surely forbid her to reveal this much of herself in front of others in the real world, instead insisting she dress demurely and sophisticated so as not to embarrass the family. While SAO is certainly guilty of fan service to a degree, how happy and carefree Asuna appears during these scenes make her entirely more humans and also infinitely more attractive.

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='age16 haruhi suzumiya00' anime='The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya dvd 02']
[Information episodes=" 14 " aired=" Apr 2006 - Jul 2006 "]

Haruhi Suzumiya is far from your average high school girl, something that becomes very apparent when Kyon discovers that the other members of the paranormal investigation club are all other worldly entities trying to monitor the girl who can alter the course of man kind. This in essence gives Haruhi the powers of a god, but she is entirely unaware of this, instead feeling constantly bored by a life that she feels is simply too normal. Perhaps it’s her obsession with the paranormal and wanting to meet aliens that has drawn them all near to her. In any case, Haruhi is incredibly passionate, bossy and downright crazy at times, with none of the care for her contemporaries’ opinions on her. The combination of attributes makes Haruhi one of the most intriguing and appealing anime girls in existence. During their summer vacation, Haruhi is so determined that the group will have fun and make the most of their time that an infinite time loop is created from her sheer will power alone. This means they live the same summer break, all be it from different camera angles and with differing conversations, repeatedly over a 9 episode ark. This is an unthinkable idea for any anime to attempt, but Haruhi pulls it off and looks splendid in her bikini throughout the pool side summer break. The fact that through her own intense desire they relive this pool scene up to 9 times throughout the series plus the fact that Haruhi is one of the most oddly attractive and unique girls in anime places her on this list.

1. Nami from One Piece

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='one piece nami' anime='One Piece dvd']
[Information episodes=" 700+ " aired=" Oct 1999 - ongoing "]

Nami is the third member to officially join Luffy’s straw hat pirate’s crew after he aids Nami in her long term struggle with the leader of the fish men Arlong. Nami is an expert map reader and navigation specialist with a dream to map all of the seas beyond the grand line. Nami is a borderline kleptomaniac with a habit for stealing and betraying her friends. However, once she understands how far Luffy will go for his friends, Nami becomes a loyal and trustworthy ally. While rarely involved in combat early on in the series, Usopp eventually creates her famous weather rod so she can help her friends in battle without the need for any devil fruit powers. Nami’s design has undergone a number of changes throughout both the manga and anime series more than 10 year run. While she may have developed substantially in the chest measurement department since the first story arc, one thing remains constant and that is in wearing a bikini top as her primary costume. This is important for two reasons, firstly as it displays Nami’s unabashed confidence in herself, despite being embroiled in conflicts between a largely male pirate cast. So is it a little exploitative to have one of the primary female protagonists wear a bikini for the best part of 700+ episodes? Of course not, she spends her whole life on the high seas and visiting tropical paradises, wouldn’t you spend a lot of time in a swimsuit too?

What’s important for anime to continue to develop as a storytelling medium is that it takes its characters seriously enough to keep fan service and bikini scenes within some relevance to their persona and to the story. Hot anime girls in bikinis are obviously awesome, but do you know what’s better? Well developed characters with interesting personalities looking hot in bikinis. What’s your opinion on bikini scenes in anime? Is cuteness and sex appeal enough for you? Am I looking for too much depth where there perhaps is none? Let us know in the comments below.

The space opera. A genre defined by manly men fighting in robots attempting to save the world from evil forces only to return to a nice girl awaiting them on their home planet. The mech battles draw the men and the elaborate tales of love and drama bring the women to watch a very old genre. One of the genre’s signature series, Gundam, has been running for almost forever with a different reincarnation airing almost every new anime season, even sometimes overlapping another Gundam series. A testament to how successful the franchise has been thus far. In the new series Iron-Blooded Orphans the usual romance plot is spiced up quite a bit. A mercenary group operated by children decides to revolt against the adults who treat them like garbage and form their own mercenary group, Tekkadan. Their first mission is to escort the diplomat Kudelia from Mars to Earth so that she may plead for human rights. While the plot sounds typical enough, the group is filled solely of boys and men and many have never been around anyone of the opposite sex besides Biscuit’s sisters and Atra, who clearly has a thing for Mikazuki. Because of this, the series is dripping with sexual undertones. Everyone is blushing, every word said has a double meaning, and every main character has that ONE special someone that is thought about constantly. Pure. Yaoi. Bliss.

[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

Moment #1: A Confession?! (Episode 6)

Image 1 Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans

After Tekkadan’s original guide betrayed them Orga decides to reach out to Teiwaz, a group that is well known to be a syndicate. As Orga heads to Teiwaz’s headquarters, Biscuit confronts him about the dangers of doing so. Biscuit questions Orga on whether or not he is choosing the dangerous path on purpose or not. Orga then dives into full out confession mode. He admits that he believes he must do this in order to move forward, but the kicker is because he believes Mikazuki’s eyes are all on him. Orga then continues to gush about Mikazuki saying that, “He’s strong, cool, and has courage. He mastered a Mobile Suit in his first battle, and now reads and writes.” Orga then admits that he cannot “betray those eyes”. He always has to “be the coolest Orga Itsuka”. Has anyone been as blindly in love as Orga is?! He’s doing this all for Mikazuki! He truly admires Mikazuki and it shows considering the two hardly need to say a word for them to understand each other. Their bond is unbreakable. They talk about each other as if they are in awe of the other’s presence. It is absolutely adorable. The two really need to sort themselves out so that everyone can have a good old fashioned nose bleed.

Moment #2: Getting Drunk and Letting out Secrets (Episode 9)

Image 2 Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans

After earning quite a bit of money from selling parts stolen from Gjallarhorn, Orga decides to give his crew the much needed downtime they have been looking for. For the young ones, he brings back all sorts of delicacies and sweets that would otherwise be out of reach for children of poverty, but for the “adults” he has something much better planned. Orga takes everyone out to a nice izakaya to drink and eat to their hearts’ content although Orga is the one who ends up completely smashed. The next scene cuts to Orga leaning over a balcony, sick as hell. The only one there to help him is Mikazuki as he gently rubs Orga’s back. This scene is absolutely adorable! It isn’t often that Orga’s more sensitive and vulnerable side is seen and to see Mikazuki step up and be the strong one in this situation is icing on the cake. Orga’s face is completely red with a blush even after Mikazuki has enlisted the help of the others to carry Orga back. In fact, the scene even gets better. In his passed out state Orga whispers, “I can finally make a family for you.” It’s quite obvious who he’s talking about (*cough* Mikazuki*cough*. While no family in the traditional sense, Tekkadan is definitely a loving and caring family. As a side note, Akihiro is carrying Orga.

Moment #3: Not Interested in Women (Episode 9)

Image 3 Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans

During Orga’s party many of the men ate and drank their fill, but a small group couldn’t help but wonder if the celebration could be improved upon by adding some women to the mix. The group enthusiastically agrees. Or rather all but one agrees. Akihiro shyly looks to the side and states that he doesn’t understand what the big idea is. The group begins teasing them and the scene is cut short early leaving the audience confused. While the scene is quite short, it opens up a giant can of worms. Does Akihiro just not understand women because he’s technically a “child” or does he just not PREFER women? It’s safe to assume most fans will gravitate to the latter, but the question is WHO is he paired with?! Mikazuki and Orga seem to be a pretty solid pair so far, but Mikazuki and Akihiro DO train together…alone. Shirtless. In a room with beds. Could this possibly be a love triangle? THERE MUST BE MORE.

[ad_middle]

Moment #4: Only One Left Out (Episode 10)

Image 4 Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans

The scene begins with a message from Tekkadan’s accountant back on Mars explaining that everything is well back on the home front to Biscuit, Eugene, Norba, and Orga. Orga dismisses Biscuit so that he may receive his own personal messages from his sisters in private. Eugene immediately exclaims that he would “rather receive a message from a woman” than from family. Norba teases Eugene by saying he’d rather have a woman in front of him than long distance because he loves the physical aspects of a woman best. Eugene exclaims that it’s the emotional aspect of a relationship with a woman that is best. Norba then throws Eugene under the bus, wondering how Eugene could possibly know anything after having his first experience just days prior. Eugene seeks backup in Orga, but is left hanging as Orga explains that he doesn’t “care much about women.” A small blush forms on Orga’s cheeks. Eugene presses the issue further stating that a man must know a woman to become a “true man”. Eugene and Norba continue their antics while Orga looks away and exclaims that he “doesn’t care” because he has a family. Orga, while carrying the physical traits of a man still has the mentality of a child. Of course he isn’t interested in women when he has Mikazuki in the wings. He can say he cares about his family more than his personal life, but clearly he is confusing romantic feelings with familial love. There is one other character in recent anime that has done this and I believe his name is Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club. While Orga needs to sort out his feelings for Mikazuki, all the fans will continue to watching him cutely stumble over his own feet when faced with the idea of love. There has to be a happy ending somewhere…though it is a Gundam series.

Moment #5: Norba and Yamagi (Episode 7)

Image 5 Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans

Yamagi maintains many of the Mobile Workers, but there is just one that he gravitates to in particular. As Tekkadan prepares to take on the enemy, Yamagi preps Norba’s machine. As thanks Norba reaches out to grab Yamagi’s hand. Yamagi hesitates until Norba grabs a hold and then pulls Yamagi from the cockpit, leaving him stunned. Yamagi looks down at his hand and forms a fist. The scene is brief, but is a special moment shared between the two. For a while Yamagi has seemed to pay special attention to Norba, but this scene really seals the deal on how Yamagi truly feels for the older man. In fact, this scene is one of the rare ones that actually shows really canon feelings from one character and it is super cute. Yamagi’s look of astonishment for being recognized by Norba forces butterflies into the stomachs of everyone watching. Since these two are minor characters they don’t get much screen time, but the audience is still rooting for them!

Conclusion

While the series never overtly shows any physical contact or states anything blatantly, the idea of these relationships blossoming off screen can sometimes be more tantalizing than giving fan girls what they want. Even better is the idea of manly men on a giant ship succumbing to their secret desires between the sheets. The series isn’t over so perhaps these relationships still have a chance to come to fruition. Only time will tell. Until then, speculation fanfiction will always be there for comfort.

But if you wanna spoil yourself due to curiosity and weren’t planning on watching these, then we guess that’s okay. With that said, I’ll avoid spoiling too much by not providing extra details. Maybe perhaps these missing pieces will convince you to watch these shows. Let’s begin!

10. Kodomo no Jikan OVA
Episode 3: A Child’s Summer Time - “A case of mistaken identity.”

captcha 10. Kodomo no Jikan OAD

The lead male character Aoki Daisuke brought the girls Kokonoe Rin, Usa Mimi, Kagami Kuro, fellow teacher and also love interest, Houin Kyouko, to the countryside to visit Aoki’s family. There, Kyouko meets Daisuke’s younger sister Chika and their mother. Kyouko has an ulterior motive: She is taking this chance to make a good impression that she makes a good wife to Daisuke. After a few rounds of beers with Chika, the two girls got drunk and ended up sleeping in Daisuke’s futon. When Kyouko opened her eyes a bit, she saw Chika sleeping and like any person influenced by alcohol, she mistook Chika as Daisuke and proceeded to have her way with the (un)fortunate country girl. This scene only lasted around 40-ish seconds, but it’s more than enough to see some great yuri in action. Did drunk Kyouko and Chika go all the way? Who knows, but after seeing Chika’s reaction the morning later, I guess they did. “Those metro girls really are freaky!”

09. Fate Kaleid Liner PRISMA ILLYA 2wei Herz!
Episode 02: “Mana transfer”

captcha 09. Fate Kaleid Liner PRISMA ILLYA 2wei Herz!

It’s summer break for Illyasviel von Einzbern aka “Illya and the gang”, so they’re off to buy the most essential thing for summer break: swimsuits! As the girls browsed around the mall for something cute to wear, Kuro is getting weaker and weaker. Kuro took off with Illya to a secluded place to initiate an emergency mana transfer. Chloe von Einzbern aka “Kuro”, needs constant mana to survive and she needs to ‘extract’ mana from other people through kissing or body contact. We’ve seen many scenes of Kuro extracting mana through French kissing many times in the series, but what makes this particular scene special is that it’s funny and one of their friends is spying on them… and she got aroused too. The first part is Kuro is asking Illya to begin in a rather meek, submissive tone, Illya noticed the mood, and then made the mistake of, say, not using the right words. Illya then argued that mana transferring doesn’t need to be done through kissing, and that it can be done through other means. Kuro whispered the other “means” of transfer and Illya turned instantly red. Not sure what Kuro whispered, but I can guess the method involves two pairs of scissors, or petting the cat, or eating tacos… Don’t ask. In the end, the two both engaged in the usual mana transfer with their bewildered friend watching them from afar.

08. Yuru Yuri Season 1
Episode 05: “A counselling session gone (horribly) wrong”

captcha 08. Yuru Yuri Season 1

Yoshikawa Chinatsu is madly in love with her prince-charming-senpai, Funami Yui, and she wants to know more about her. Akaza Akari, Yui’s childhood friend, agreed to help her out. Chinatsu invites Akari to her place during the summer break and spend the day learning everything about Yui. After a series of questions like “who Yui likes, etc.”, Akari asked the question of what Chinatsu wants to do with Yui!? Chinatsu answered, she wants to kiss her and do some rather sexual things to her. Akari, the always concerned friend, followed up with the question that kissing is embarrassing. This led Chinatsu suggesting she needs to practice kissing and… Akari is the only girl around. You may find the whole Chinatsu chasing Akari around the house, grabbing her, pinning her to the floor and forced Akari to touch lips rather offensive, but don’t be. Chinatsu is just a curious girl in love and she’s too young to realize what she did was wrong. Plus the anime handled the scene in a funny way. You’re one sour grape if you don’t see the humor behind it.

07. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!: Kirameki no...
Slapstick Noel OVA: “First kiss”

captcha 07. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! OVA

Instead of going home after a hectic Christmas party at Dekomori Sanae’s house, Togashi Yuuta and Takanashi Rikka went on a scenic cruise in the sea. Yuuta planned this so that he develop his budding relationship with Rikka. Unfortunately, something ruined the mood. Little do they know, Dekomori Sanae, Nibutani Shinka, Tsuyuri Kumin and Isshiki Makoto were tailing them all along. Dekomori, being very close to Rikka, saw the entire thing, got jealous and attacks Yuuta, pleading for him to return Rikka to her. Shinka tried to stop Dekomori, but both of them, Yuuta and Rikka slipped. As Yuuta stops Rikka from falling, their lips come close, the screen goes black and we hear a “chuu” sound. As they come about, the two lovebirds didn’t kiss, but where did the sound come from? As they turned around, they saw Shinka and Dekomori touching lips. This scene happened in an instant but it was very unexpected, and quite frankly, it hyped a lot of people for the second season of the anime. Dekomori is hostile towards Shinka because she believes that Shinka is not the Mori Summer she used to admire, and throughout the series Dekomori wastes no time in making Shinka’s school life a living hell. This kind of love-hate relationship between the two is so palpable, it was only a matter of time for this to happen. And when it happened, it was glorious. Plus it was their first kiss.

06. Sakura Trick
Episode 11: “Steal a kiss”

captcha 06. Sakura Trick

Their cover was blown. Takayama Haruka and Sonoda Yuu were kissing in the hallway and Yuu’s big sister and student council president Sonoda Mitsuki saw the entire thing. Ever since Mitsuki is keeping an eye out for Yuu and our heroine Haruka can longer have her daily kissing with Yuu. To make matters worse, Mitsuki assigned Ikeno Kaede, one of Haruka’s friends, to monitor Yuu and report any unfavorable acts by Haruka. During a dancing lesson, Haruka took this chance to pair up with Haruka, and like a skilled dance professional, Haruka steals a few kisses while at certain angles where the spying eyes of Kaede can’t see. If you’ve seen Sakura Trick, the anime has LOTS of kissing, but this scene is special because it’s not the usual kissing sessions we see. Haruka was so determined to touch lips with Yuu again, that it’s amazing no one saw them, including Kaede.

Asogi Rin is working on a case of grisly murders that are happening throughout the city. Rin knows that the perpetrator is not human and after her leads went cold, she approaches an informant she knew years ago. The informant has the info Rin wants, but she won’t give it easily for such information comes with a high price: sex. This scene came out of nowhere and it’s amusing to see both sides winning. Normally these types of informants ask for a stupid amount of money for their own benefits, and it’s nice to see a different and, uh, “fair” take of it. The scene ends with the informant asking for round 2 by inserting a small vial containing the info in her privates, and Rin has to extract it by means of, uh, you know...

It’s Christmas and Kasugano Urara’s birthday is just around the corner and the entire gang of the Survival Game club are hatching up a plan to give the birthday girl a surprise party. Sonokawa Momoka, Goutokuji Kayo, Kyoudou Maya and their eccentric club leader, Ootori Miou, are working together to give Urara a birthday party she’ll never forget. Unsurprisingly, things didn’t go too well and the preparations end up ruined with a wild bear running loose in the city. Don’t ask. Fortunately, they found the best replacement and when Urara showed up, she is happy that everyone remembers her birthday and the gift she received is the best one yet. What is this gift? It’s a gift-wrapped Momoka, of course! Urara has the hots for Momoka and she’s the resident pervert and masochist that finds ways to molest Momoka, or encourage Momoka to punch her. What’s so great about this episode is it’s the final episode and it ends with Urara taking home the gift-wrapped Momoka and, well, it’s up to one’s imagination what’s going to happen.

03. Kannazuki no Miko
Episode 08: “Chikane takes advantage of Himeko”

captcha 03. Kannazuki no Miko

Himemiya Chikane and Kurusugawa Himeko are destined to be the Moon and Sun priestesses that will battle the Orochi to save the world from destruction. However, there’s part of the legend that the world forgot: the fated priestesses must battle each other to the death. Chikane is in love with Himeko but she doesn’t have the courage to express her love. Every passing episode, Himeko is slowly moving away from Chikane because of Oogami Souma, a childhood friend and protector, shows up every time to protect Himeko from danger. Relationship between the two grew and Chikane, unable to protect Himeko with her own hands, is slowly sinking into despair, and eventually abandoning her humanity and became a part of the Orochi like what the prophecies foretold. Driven by lust and despair, and perhaps an act of love, Chikane revealed herself to Himeko as the Orochi and sexually assaulted her. The "taking advantage"(rape), scene is a turning point for the plot and the real battle against the Orochi began.

02. Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito
Episode 13: “I missed you.”

captcha 02. Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito

The story of YamiBou is all about a group of book travellers or travellers of alternate worlds looking for the elusive girl named Eve. This girl Eve travels through different books or world in the Great Library and live within them and then move on to the next world after she turned 16. Hazuki met Hatsumi as a child and ever since they’re living together ever since. Hazuki developed sexual feelings towards Hatsumi and when Hatsumi turned 16, she moved on to the next world. Through the teleportation sequence, Hazuki gained some of Hatsumi’s power, met a book traveller and the entire series is about Hazuki jumping around worlds looking for Hatsumi. Eventually Hazuki found Hatsumi and expressed her love and Hatsumi accepted it. The scene takes place back at her home, right before Hatsumi teleports to another world. It is one of the most detailed and romantic kissing scene in recent memory and I still recall as I yelped “You finally found her, Hazuki!” The ending of the anime is hard to like because it, I dunno, added more implications and turned Hazuki’s love into maternal love. But still, the final kissing scene is one of the best out there.

01. Puella Magi Madoka Magica Part III
Rebellion: “I finally caught you.”

captcha 01. Puella Magi Madoka Magica

After Madoka sacrificed herself by the end of the TV series, she attained godhood and “fixed” everything. However it came with a price: Madoka’s existence ceased to exist in the world. No one in her class remembers her, and her parents didn’t even conceive her. No one remembers, except for Homura. Madoka is there, but she’s on a different plane of existence that no one can reach her. Throughout the movie, Homura soon discovered that she’s turning into a witch because of all the pain and suffering she had experienced, and Kyubey used Homura in an experiment by trapping everyone in an illusion as an attempt to reach and control the now god Madoka. After Homura broke free from Kyubey’s illusion, Madoka descends from the heavens to take away Homura for she’s now a witch. In a twist of fate, Homura turned herself into something more than a witch, takes Madoka out of being a god, and rewrote the entire universe, removing the need for Madoka thus rendering her sacrifice useless, and gave everyone new memories so that no one remembers what Homura did... except for Sayaka for some reason. By the end of the movie, Madoka, Homura, Sayaka, Kyoko, Mami and everyone else now live in a peaceful life. Homura is in love with Madoka to the point of obsession, and did everything by becoming a demon just to get Madoka back in her arms. Homura is the devil and Madoka the god, both are equalizers of a new universe. This kind of obsession and desire to be with the girl she loves makes this our number 1 yuri scene on the list. Homura said it well: “It is the pinnacle of all human emotion. More passionate than hope, far deeper than despair. Love.” Oh and this makes Akemi Homura the gayest girl in the known universe.

In Anime, male characters are usually cool and brave. They are, quite often, role models, the type of men we’d like to be. But every now and then, these strong and inspiring male characters show us their softer side by shedding a tear or two. I particularly love those very special scenes in which we get to see these men crying. It just makes them so human… and adorable. Plus, moments like these teach us that it’s ok for boys to cry too. I once read that crying doesn’t mean you’re weak; it means you’ve been strong for too long. Jeez, I’m getting emotional already. Just check this Top 10 anime boys crying!

10. Kaiji Itou from Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Hakairoku Hen (ep. 25)

kaiji captcha kaiji crying 3
[Information episodes=" 26 " aired=" Apr 2011 – Sep 2011 "]

I’d say that Kaiji is one big baby and a whiner, but then he does know how to get himself into deep trouble, and it’s not really like he’s crying for stupid things. Kaiji is such a deadbeat that he keeps accumulating debts and owing lots of money to the wrong people. His only way out of this world of debts is gambling, which of course only gets him into more trouble. As a result, we often see him crying in the middle of a gambling venture while hearing the unsettling “zawa zawa” on the background. His greatest and most pathetic cry was when he was about to lose his money and his freedom to the giant pachinko machine, the Bog. I would’ve cried my face off too in that situation.

9. Atsushi Murasakibara from Kuroko no Basket (2nd season, ep 25)

Kuroko no Basket Murasakibara Crying 1 captcha
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Oct 2013 – Mar 2014 "]

Murasakibara is that huge and intimidating guy who looks so strong and fearless that we just can’t picture him crying. I mean, that kid is a monster, he’s permanently serious, he never laughs or smiles, and he doesn’t seem to care about anything at all other than winning (and candy). He even claims to hate basketball. Of course, however tough he may seem, we get the feeling early on that he doesn’t really hate basketball. In fact, at the end of the Yosen vs Seirin match, Murasakibara gets in the zone, which only the most passionate and talented players could achieve. After losing, this tough 6’10’’ giant lets out a big sob, letting everyone know how important basketball actually was to him.

8. Kirito from Sword Art Online (ep. 3)

Sword Art Online kirito crying captcha
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Jul 2012 – Dec 2012 "]

The 3rd episode on SAO is kind of a filler, but a very powerful one. Kirito meets Sachi and the rest of the Moonlit Black Cats. He develops certain feelings for her, but not for long. The group falls into a trap and Sachi and the rest get killed in front of Kirito. As a good hero, Kirito blames himself for her death even after months have passed. On Christmas Eve however, he gets a message from Sachi telling him her death was inevitable, thus releasing him from his guilt. This is a really touching scene where Kirito just can’t help to break down to tears, as anyone else would.

7. Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (ep. 13)

Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 Lelouch Crying 1 captcha
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Apr 2008 – Sep 2008 "]

That scene where the Black Prince loses Shirley has to be one of the most tragic and saddest scenes in anime ever. It just feels so real, Shirley’s trying to say goodbye and how much she loves him, while he’s totally freaking out and ordering her not to die. Yeah, like you could do that. I just love this scene. I find it very powerful and realistic. That is how someone should react to the death of a beloved one; being hysterical, irrational and bursting into uncontrollable tears.

6. Hisashi Mitsui from Slam Dunk (ep. 27)

Slam Dunk Mitsui Crying 2 captcha
[Information episodes=" 101 " aired=" Oct 1993 – Mar 1996 "]

After quitting basketball, Hisashi Mitsui became that problem kid who just loved getting into fights. When he messed with Shohoku’s basketball team though, he wasn’t expecting to end up crying like a little girl. It turns out that Professor Ansai was very dear to Mitsui. So much in fact, that meeting him at Shohoku’s gym made Mitsui realize the kind of scoundrel he had become. After taking a beating from Shohoku’s freshmen, he begged Professor Ansai for a chance to play on the team. He did it while on his knees, with a sea of tears and blood pouring out of his face.

5. Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto Shippuden (ep. 30)

Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto Shippuden captcha
[Information episodes=" Still airing " aired=" Feb 2007 to date "]

Every once in a while we get to see something quite rare and unexpected on Naruto, and that is Naruto crying. As the brave ninja warrior he is, he’s not prone to show his soft side this way. However, he’s so noble he can’t help to react in this way whenever he fails to save someone. Sasuke and Gaara’s deaths had huge impacts on Naruto. The scene where he cries after Gaara’s death is so powerful. His crying is probably the manliest one I’ve ever seen. Yes, even though his tears shine like pretty diamonds.

4. Okazaki Tomoya from Clannad: After Story (ep. 18)

Okazaki Tomoya from Clannad After Story captcha
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" Oct 2008 – Mar 2009 "]

We all know Clannad as that damn show that makes you cry your freaking eyes out. It seems as if the sole purpose of this show is to make you miserable. It’s full of really touching moments that will make you want to lock yourself in your room to cry for days. One of the most heartbreaking scenes to me is the one where Okazaki tells Ushio about Nagisa on the train. As he starts reminiscing, tears stream from his eyes. Before we realize, Ushio follows him and then suddenly everyone (including you) is crying uncontrollably.

3. Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (ep. 5)

Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood captcha
[Information episodes=" 64 " aired=" Apr 2009 – Jul 2010 "]

Everyone who’s watched FMAB knows the terrible things that happen on the fourth episode. Nobody expected such atrocity to happen, so we understand just how heartbroken the Elric brothers are on the following episode. There, we can see Edward sitting on some stairs while sulking and crying his heart out under a heavy rain, which fits the mood just fine. I find this moment very powerful and special because it’s the first time we get to know the more human and sensitive side of the main character, who finds himself completely powerless.

2. Yukiteru Amano from Mirai Nikki (ep. 22)

Yukiteru Amano from Mirai Nikki Future Diary captcha
[Information episodes=" 26 " aired=" Oct 2011 – Apr 2012 "]

We all know Yuki is a sissy and a crybaby above all. The only thing he’s not afraid of is admitting how much of a coward he is. He’s probably cried more times than any other male protagonist in the history of anime. But there’s one crying scene in particular that I find as unique and original as creepy. I’m talking about that scene in which he kills his own friends while crying. Yuki is so consumed by Yuno’s insanity that he goes after N°8 and he won’t even let his closest friends stop him. He shoots them down one by one as they get in his way, while crying like the big baby he is. A big psychopathic baby with a gun.

1. Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul √A (ep. 12)

Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul √A captcha
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Jan 2015 – Mar 2015 "]

The last episode of Tokyo Ghoul √A was full of action and powerful emotions. Few scenes made me cry as much as Kaneki and Hide’s reunion at Anteiku in the middle of the raid. It was beautiful to see them reunited even if for a minute before the place was engulfed in flames. Kaneki ends up crying over his agonizing friend. Before passing out, Hide tells Kaneki: “let’s go home”, which hits us right in the feels, since we don’t really think he’s going to make it. To make it even more dramatic, Kaneki’s tears coming from his ghoul eye are red as blood. Now that’s one cool cry.

Sometimes, the workplace is where your closest colleague is somehow the dumbest person you have ever known. This person is someone who manages to annoy you by simply breathing. That's how Barnaby Brooks Jr. , alias “Bunny”, must have felt all the time, being paired up with Kotetsu T. Kaburagi! Even though we pity the sparkling and popular Bunny, we can sympathize with the clumsy, trying-to-act-cool Kotetsu very well too! Ok, he is dumb, but at least he tries, and seeing how this hits Bunny's nerves it is amusing. After Bunny signed an autograph for a woman with a baby and the woman dropped the pen on the floor, our keen Kotetsu tries to play the gentleman card, by picking up the pen for her. What could go wrong in doing something so simple? Kotetsu always knows how to make it worse! 7. Shirou Emiya from Fate/Stay Night [Unlimited Blade Works]

7 FateStay Night capture

Girls can be a tease sometimes and Shirou Emiya knows it very well! That's why when Rin Toosaka crashes his home at lunch time, he begins to see trouble. Obviously, the honest and kind Shirou cannot just say no to the beautiful girl, but still tries to act all serious, and after lunch he gently pushes for her to go home. Supported by the unaware Saber, the cunning Rin insists to stay for dinner and, possibly, for the night. Can our Shirou stand her presence for that long time? When push comes to shove, Rin just starts messing around with Shirou, asking why he is so tense and why he reacts so timidly in front of her. Shirou tries to explain, but Rin pushes even further. At a loss of words, lacking the ability to lie at all, what's left to do for the vulnerable Shirou? Facepalm, of course! You can relax now, Shirou Emiya! The 7th position is yours!

6. Yuki Souma from Fruits Basket

6 Fruits Basket capture

“Prince” Yuki Souma bumps into his older brother, Ayame, while he is bragging about his new wonderful shop with the cute Tooru Honda. The usually silent and apparently impassive Yuki dares to say that he would like to go and see. Having Yuki state that single sentence, Ayame bursts into happiness and starts telling all the other tenants what just happened. If not for Yuki, we could facepalm at the total idiocy of Ayame. Soon after, Yuki hears from Tooru that the shop sells clothes for maids, nurses and stewardesses, and that's how poor Yuki begins to understand his mistake in showing enthusiasm about something relating to his big brother! Sunday morning brings Yuki and Tooru in front of Ayame's shop. It takes just a look for Yuki to understand what an ambiguous shop that could be! And it's a facepalm for him, a valid one we would add, because right after they enter the shop, Yuki discovers what that shop really is: a clothes' shop for boys' fetish! Resist, Yuki! We feel you, and that's why our 6th position is yours!

5 Tutor Hitman Reborn! capture

Gokudera Hayato, in the name of the admiration held toward Tsunayoshi Sawada, tries his best everyday! In high school, right before a battle he is always forced to do the “Vongola Fight!” circle. Everybody knows that Tsuna is Gokudera's weak point, that's how they manage to coerce the unwilling Gokudera into doing what they want. Sadly, the situation won't change even in the future! His future self has to deal with Yamamoto, and the others, and their stupid ideas like always. That's why, when he found himself yet again doing the “Vongola Fight!” circle, he just facepalms at his own stupidity! Gokudera, your facepalm was worth the 5th position in this rank!

2. Hiroki Kamijou form Junjou Romantica

1. Luna from Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal (Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Crystal)

1 Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal capture

The little and cute Luna deserves our 1st position! When you're a cat, and have to make a girl like Usagi Tsukino know how to behave and how to fight, your life can become really messy! Luna manages very well, but you know, interacting with a whiny, spoiled, idiotic girl is a tough life. Probably the only smart girl in the group is Rei Hino. In fact, she is the first one and only stating the obvious when, after some circumstances, she wakes up and sees Sailor Moon in the middle of a battle: “You are... Usagi?” Let's clap our hands, maybe you stated the obvious, but still you said out loud what no one ever could. Same hair colour, same voice, same stupidity: congratulations, Rei Hino, Sailor Moon is exactly Usagi! What about Sailor Moon's reaction? Well, it's Usagi we're talking about. She dares to strongly deny it! That's when little Luna facepalms. The most righteous facepalm. We feel you, Luna! (Rei just notices it because Sailor Moon remains in the same costume along with the same face, same stupidity, and the same hair! Luna probably facepalms because there is no time to deny it. Especially since Rei will be the next sailor warrior!

See? We gave you proof that anime characters facepalm too! Being out of exasperation, out of frustration, or simply when there's nothing left to say. Of course, these are just ten out of the infinite facepalming scenes you can find in the anime world, but we chose these because they all have different contexts and swing from funny to very very stupid! We hope you had fun reading it, and if you know other facepalm scenes that were worth this ranking, feel free to comment below!

What makes battles and even a duel with two skilled warriors the best? Of course the scenes must be well-animated with eye-catching set pieces and insane acrobatics, but there is one element that makes these scenes more palpable, more impactful, more meaningful… regardless of animation quality and special effects. What is this secret ingredient? I won’t tell you just yet, but let’s figure out as I list down the top 10 best battles and fights in anime. Oh and yes, SPOILER ALERT!

10. Samurai Champloo: Mugen vs Jin

[three_images_in_row image1='Mugen Samurai Champloo' image2='samurai champloo jin' image3='Samurai Champloo dvd']

The story starts with our protagonist Fuu working in a tea shop and then is abused by a band of samurai. She is saved by a rogue named Mugen and the vagabond Jin and after the two met, all hell breaks lose. After they were caught, Fuu rescues them and in return for her deed, Fuu asks them to travel with her to find "the samurai who smells of sunflowers." You’ll know the anime will have very good fight scenes in the next few episodes once you see the very first one. Mugen uses a mix of unorthodoxed style of sword fighting with breakdancing using his feet and erratic movements while Jin is uses the more traditional sword arts and use calculated strikes. The fight only lasted a few seconds, but it’s enough to convince you that Samurai Champloo will be a great show to watch.

09. Naruto: Uzumaki Naruto vs Uchiha Sasuke

Uchiha Sasuke, bearing the cursed seal, leaves Konoha to search for Orochimaru. Hot on his tail is none other than Uzumaki Naruto, determined to bring him back even if he needs breaks Sasuke’s body. This one of the few episodes in the Naruto series with its notable fluid animation and well-choreographed fight, but what makes this special is this is first time the two went all out. Naruto harnessed the power of the Nine-Tailed Fox that proved and Sasuke responded by fully unlocking the Sharingan and utilized the power of the cursed seal given to him by Orochimaru. The fight isn’t all about which one is the most powerful, but rather the fight is all about the bond the two made during their time training, fighting, and goofing around. Naruto wants Sasuke back and the only way through it is by force. Sasuke said it was to late and he can’t go back, but finally he acknowledged Naruto as an equal.

08. School Rumble 2nd Term: Harima Kenji vs Hanai Haruki

[three_images_in_row image1='Kenji Harima School Rumble' image2='Hanai Haruki School Rumble' image3='school rumble DVD']

Harima Kenji is madly in love with Tsukamoto Tenma, but he doesn’t have the courage to confess. Like the clumsy oaf that he is, his actions have led to many misunderstandings like Tenma is convinced Harima is dating her little sister Tsukamoto Yakumo. To makes matters worse, Hanai Haruki - who has a crush on Yakumo - overheard she is dating Harima. This led the two into bad terms with each other. Harima wants to clear this misunderstanding and Hanai wants to be sure Yakumo is truly dating Harima. They need to fix this and find answers fast. Enter the school festival. The entire class of 2-C are having trouble deciding on what activity to use in the festival. Half of the class wants a maid cafe while the other half prefers to stage a play. On a deadlock, the class decided to settle it by duking it out in a survival game. The class is divided into two teams and whoever wins the battle will get to pick what activity to use in the festival. School Rumble loves parody and the survival game is arguably the best with its gloomy atmosphere and violence. Harima and Hanai are on separate teams and like any other epic drama, they’re the only ones left standing and they fight it out on the rooftop with one of the best gun kata battles in a slice of life show. Will Hanai find the answer he’s looking for? He has to defeat Harima first.

07. Bleach: Zaraki Kenpachi vs Nnoitra Gilga

[three_images_in_row image1='Bleach Zaraki Kenpachi' image2='Nnoitra Gilga Bleach' image3='dvd Bleach']

Hueco Mundo Arc, Kurosaki Ichigo and the gang is on a rescue mission to save their friend Orihime Inoue from the clutches of Shinigami traitor Sousuke Aizen and his elite band of hollows called the Espada. Around mid-way into the story arc, Ichigo and the gang are getting overpowered by the Espada. All seems lost but in an unexpected twist, the 13 Division Imperial Guards of Soul Society intervened to aide the exhausted gang. Ichigo escaped death after getting rescued by Zaraki Kenpachi, the most deadly shinigami in the 13 Division. As Ichigo recuperates, Kenpachi sets his sights and clash swords with Nnoitra Gilga, one of the Espada. A lot of people will say the fight between Ichigo and Grimmjow or the fight between Ichigo and Ulquiorra are well-made and they’re right, they’re very great. However, the best one in the arc goes to Kenpachi and his fight with Nnoitra mainly because this is the first time Kenpachi let loose. Nnoitra is a formidable enemy that managed to injure a shinigami known to absorb any kind of attack like it was nothing. In the end, Kenpachi emerged victorious simply by recalling basic training, and as you know, Kenpachi isn’t really the type who follows sword discipline. If you’ve been watching Bleach long enough, Kenpachi wasn’t given the time to show off his true power. Either he got lost finding where the action is or is conveniently imprisoned because if he’s around, the entire conflict would have ended in just a few minutes. He’s that powerful. This battle finally showed what he’s capable of and while the animation weren’t that good, the fight showed us what Kenpachi is truly capable of.

Makunouchi Ippo’s passion for the boxing sport is unrivaled and he won title after title through sheer work and determination. So when he sees a fellow boxer mocking the sport, and injuring those he love, Ippo can’t just idly stand by and must answer back through his fists. The man in question is Sawamura Ryuuhei, a boxer who specializes in counter attacks. He is a deranged thug with a bad upbringing. He doesn’t respect the sport and he relentlessly destroys his opponents through foul play to the point he ends the careers of any boxer he faces. He’s not in it for the sport, he’s in it to satisfy his bloodlust. Ippo’s worst type of opponent are the counter punchers, and it’s one of the reason why his coach Kamogawa Genji indirectly refuses Ippo to fight long time rival Miyata Ichirou. Ippo’s signature finishing move the Dempsey Roll can be countered easily and a counter under such momentum of the move will greatly damage Ippo. Sawamura knows this and Ippo knows this. In the fight, Sawamura underestimated Ippo by shooting cheap shots and using dirty tactics, but as soon as Sawamura realizes the champion’s firepower and rhythm down, he changes mood and fighting stance to take Ippo seriously. Ippo then realized that outside from the dirty tactics, Sawamura is a formidable opponent with lightning-fast fists. The only way to defeat Sawamura is use the Dempsey Roll, but Sawamura is aware of this and he’s ready to deliver a deadly counter punch. Ippo must evolve the Dempsey Roll if he wants to win this fight.

[imageCharacterWithAnime character='slam dunk dvd' anime='dvd Slam Dunk']

Team Shohoku, for the first time, joins the Inter High Tournament where schools around Japan compete for the championships. When the rest of the team went to training before joining the Inter High Tournament, Shohoku coach Anzai Mitsuyoshi asked basketball “genius” Sakuragi Hanamichi to remain for a special training. Coach Anzai explained that this training will improve Hanamichi like never before. Before they head out to the shinkansen (high speed bullet train), district rivals Shoyo and Ryonan arrived at the Shohoku gym for a farewell. What happened instead is they propose a final practice match between district qualifier Shohoku and the combined might of team Shoyo-Ryonan. If they win this practice match, then Shohoku is truly worthy as contenders in the Inter High, and if they fail, they will not succeed in attaining championship. Shoyo-Ryonan, with ace player Akira Sendou is the most formidable team Shohoku has ever faced. The match is fierce and difficult with Shohoku losing. Even Shohoku’s ace Kaede Rukawa is having trouble with Sendou on his back. All seems lost, but Shoyo-Ryonan failed to realize that Hanamichi has a trick up his sleeve. This is a great last battle between Shohoku and rivals Shoyo and Ryonan. The rival teams are giving it all and show Shohoku that the Inter High is a whole new level they have yet to realize. If Shohoku loses, they might as well give up. From a simple practice match to a grueling initiation right Shohoku must overcome.

Before the ruler of the beastmen takes his last breath, he warned Simon that a far greater evil will arrive once man reaches to the skies. A few years later, humans finally populated the planet, co-existed with the beastmen and relative peace has attained. Simon has grown into a fine young man and confessed his feelings to Nia and the rest of the Dai-Gurren had moved on with their lives. It is then revealed that the Anti-Spirals are controlling the very universe by limiting Spiral energy, an energy source that beings like humans are capable of using. The Anti-Spirals took Nia and it’s up to Simon and Team Dai-Gurren to save not only Nia, but also the entire universe. After a series of hard fought battles and a sacrifice of a close friend, Simon and the entire team attained near omnipotence thanks to Simon’s innate ability to produce huge amounts of Spiral energy. Simon and Team Dai-Gurren combined all of their spiral energy to form Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, a galaxy-sized mech to fight against the Granzeboma, the Anti-Spiral’s menacing mech of equal size. Not only the fight is arguably the biggest in anime history (I mean, two galaxy-sized mechs fighting on top of galaxies), it’s also a battle for beliefs. It’s easy to paint the Anti-Spirals as the bad guy, but in fact, they sacrificed their very being and devoid themselves of evolution because they believe that Spiral energy will ultimately bring the end of the universe. On the other hand, Simon believed that Spiral energy can be used for good and will not bring about the end of everything when they’re in the hands of the right people. It is also one of the most intense battles in recent memory that is guaranteed to get your adrenaline pumping. If you never had any manly tears in your life, then Gurren Lagann will make you.

03. Vision of Escaflowne: Van Fanel vs Dilandau Albatou and the Dragonslayers

[three_images_in_row image1='tenkuu no escaflowne van fanel' image2='tenkuu no escaflowne dilandau albatou' image3='The Vision of Escaflowne blu-ray']

After the relentless attack of the Zaibach Empire, the Duke of Freid died in combat, and the kingdom fell. Hitomi Kanzaki, the girl from the Mystic Mood, Van Fanel, a boy with Draconian blood and the king of Fanelia that was destroyed by Zaibach, and the dashing knight Allen Schezar fled the kingdom, only to be chased again by the bloodthirsty Dilandau Albatou and his Dragonslayers. Before the fall of Freid, Hitomi indirectly taught Van on how to use his mech Escaflowne using his mind. Van successfully mastered the ability that he can move Escaflowne like it was his own body. It came with the price, however: If Escaflowne gets injured, so does he. After the battle, Van is in severe pain, his wounds won’t heal. Thanks to the wise thinking of merchant-scholar Dryden Fassa, they were able to summon a race of engineers from the sky and fixed Escaflowne, healing Van. Not before long Dilandau finally caught up to them and before the nomadic race leaves, they warned Van that his Draconian blood will have adverse side effects when using Escaflowne. Ignoring the warnings, Van descends down with Escaflowne to fight Dilandau and the Dragonslayers all by himself. The battle itself is very intense albeit one-sided. Van destroyed everyone due to rage and the fact that it was Dilandau who destroyed Fanelia and murdered his allies. It’s hard to describe the battle, but one thing’s for sure, the music titled Epistle sets the murderous mood of the battle.

[three_images_in_row image1='mobile suits gundam seed kira yamato' image2='Rau Le Creuset Mobile Suit Gundam Seed' image3='Mobile Suit Gundam SEED dvd']

The war between the Earth Forces and ZAFT has escalated in space, determined to wipe each other out. The Earth Forces (Naturals) attempted genocide by firing hundreds of nuclear missiles to ZAFT’s (Coordinators) civilian space colonies called PLANTs, and ZAFT counterattacked by revealing their Death Star-like super weapon GENESIS and destroyed the Earth Forces’ moonbase. After both sides revealed their hand, Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala, and Lacus Clyne, and the rest of the freedom fighters intervened and tries to stop mass murder. Little do the Naturals and Coordinators know that this war is just a backdrop to Rau le Creuset’s plan to destroy humanity. One of the ZAFT’s elite soldiers, Rau le Creuset pulled the strings from both sides and used their hatred of each other to his advantage. The final pieces are in place. Rau pilots the Providence Gundam, a massive death machine with multiple remote controlled laser turrets he can use to fire in any direction. He entered the final phases of the war not to stop it, but to make sure both sides kill each other. Standing in his way is a young coordinator boy named Kira Yamato and his Freedom Gundam. The battle between the two determines the fate of humanity and Rau is one of the most relentless and deadly opponent Kira has ever faced. 01. Cowboy Bebop: Spike Spiegel vs Vicious

[three_images_in_row image1='cowboy bebop spike' image2='Vicious Cowboy Bebop' image3='Cowboy Bebop DVD']

The elders of the Red Dragon crime syndicate was assassinated by Vicious and is now the leader. Vicious orders are to eliminate former syndicate members Spike Spiegel and including Spike’s lover Julia. As the two tries to escape, Julia was shot dead in the crossfire. Spike escaped back to the Bebop to not only see his comrades, but also to say one final goodbye to them. Spike grabbed all his gear and enters the syndicate’s main building to exact revenge on his own. When reaching the top floor, Spike finally encounters his former comrade Vicious and the two battle to the death. Spike had lost the person he hold dear and he wants to end it all by killing Vicious. The fight only lasted for a few seconds and eventually Spike emerged victorious, but fatally wounded. The final battle with Vicious may not be the most flashiest fight in the list, but it finally made Spike realize that he is truly alive, and not just in a bad dream. What’s next is the most heart-breaking scene in all of anime. And there you have it, the top 10 best battles and fights scenes in anime. Sure there are more well-animated or well-choreographed battles, but flashiness isn’t everything. A flashy battle against a group of nameless thugs may look nice, but it lacks that purpose as to why that particular battle happened.

A generic or simple-looking fight scene will turn into something memorable, something special if there is a story behind it. This is the message of this article. It doesn’t matter the fight only lasts for a few seconds or a few episodes, any fight is great when the story behind them is great. So what do you think of this list? Do you have a memorable fight scene in anime? Please share them with us!

February has come, and romance is in the air! What better time would there be to shoot the breeze with first kiss stories? Now, anime has delivered some really amazing kisses, like free-falling in mid-air kisses. Across a number of genres, there have been some absolutely inspiring kisses, oozing with emotion and amazing imagery, but that’s not what we’re talking about today. For us, first kisses are usually pretty awkward. Still, that awkward first kiss is a beloved memory despite how much it was ruined with inexperience, nerves, and anticipation. Let’s take this opportunity to reminisce those bittersweet moments with the ten most awkward first kisses in anime.

[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

10. Taichi, Iori, and Inaba in Kokoro Connect

10 Kokoro Connect Ep_5 capture
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" Jul. 2012 – Sept. 2012 "]

Kokoro Connect is a unique supernatural slice of life with a heavy dose of teenage romance. Five high school students share their daily lives together in the Cultural Research Club but have rather shallow relationships with each other. One day, they start randomly switching bodies, leading to drastic changes in their relationships, for better or for worse. Two of the members, Taichi and Iori always had a slight attraction to each other but neither felt the need to extend this relationship past friendship. After a life-threatening accident, Iori is unconscious but switches bodies with another girl Inaba. Fearing an imminent death, Iori and Taichi confess their love for each other, and they kiss. It’s a touching moment, except that Taichi is actually kissing Inaba. All three concur that the two stole Inaba’s first kiss in this strangely three-way smooch, but even more awkwardness ensues in the kiss’s aftermath.

9. Hidenori and Yoshitake in Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou (Daily Lives of High School Boys)

9 DKN Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou Ep_8 capture
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Jan. 2012 – Mar. 2012 "]

Daily Lives of High School Boys is, just as it sounds, a slice of life comedy that tells short scenarios in the lives of your everyday high school boys. Of course, their lives are filled with silliness and irony, where even banal situations can bring the laughs. As normal high school students, they aren’t immune to everyday awkwardness. In one strange case, a huge bee lands on Hidenori’s mouth à la Silence of the Lambs. Instinctively, Hidenori moves towards Yoshitake. Yoshitake gets an ominous vibe and tries to fight him off, but Hidenori grabs Yoshitake firmly by the shoulders and slams his mouth square onto Yoshitake’s mouth, leaving behind bee guts and nightmare fuel. To make matters worse, a classmate passes by, and the two try to defend their actions until a second bee lands on Hidenori’s lips, and again, there’s only one thing Hidenori can do. File this kiss under “Awkward Ways to Kill a Bee.”

8 Rakudai Ep_2 capture
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Oct. 2015 – Dec. 2015 "]

In Chivalry of a Failed Knight, students with magic abilities to form swords from their souls attend a special school to become Magic Knights. He instead does mostly physical training and aims to be the best in a high school fighting tournament so that he can graduate and become a knight despite his mediocre magical skill. After a stunning victory in a mock battle with his new love interest and roommate Stella Vermillion, a number of girls are now vying for his attention (read: harem). No matter how many girls are interested in Ikki, they will have trouble competing with his younger sister Shizuku, who has an undying love for her kind-hearted brother. Shizuku, who is blessed with high magical ability, enrolls in her brother’s high school and is reunited with Ikki after four long years. Taking a page from the Angelina Jolie playbook, she goes in for an open-mouth make out session with her brother in front of the whole school. Ikki is shocked, but still happy to finally see his little sister, while the rest of the students completely freak out, ending with Shizuku and Stella crossing swords. Unfortunately for Shizuku, her sibling love remains one-sided with Stella around.

7. Yamada and Kosuda in B Gata H Kei (Yamada’s First Time)

7 BgataHkei Ep_4 capture
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Apr. 2010 – Jun. 2010 "]

B Gata H Kei is an anime teen sex comedy, in which our popular protagonist Yamada is desperately looking to lose her virginity and ultimately have sex with 100 different partners. Despite her lofty goal, Yamada is worried her future sex buddies will tease her because of her inexperience, so she targets a fellow virgin Kosuda to be her first conquest. As expected, B Gata H Kei has the lion’s share of awkward moments, mostly due to Yamada’s lust-driven, one-track mind, so the unlikely couple doesn’t disappoint with their first kiss. On a Christmas Eve date, after Yamada spends half the night searching for a love hotel, a clueless Kosuda follows her while mulling over whether to kiss her or not. He finally makes a move, but while staring into each other’s eyes, they both start to get cold feet. Our girl Yamada refuses to lose and moves in, head-butting Kosuda hard enough to shed tears. She’s certain she failed, but as the pain subsides, she realizes they are kissing deeply. Mixed emotions of joy and embarrassment send Yamada running off into the night, while Kosuda rejoices in the street.

6. Araragi and Senjougahara in Bakemonogatari

6 Bakemonogatari Ep_12 capture
[Information episodes=" 15 " aired=" Jul. 2009 – Jun. 2010 "]

To put it simply, Senjougahara Hitagi is always awkward, but that’s why we love her! After running into a mysterious crab and being inflicted with weightlessness, it’s no wonder she lost most of her sociability skills. Still, a fellow classmate and half-vampire Arargi Koyomi comes to her rescue and introduces her to Oshino Meme, who identifies the solution to her odd problem. From then on, Senjougahara sees Araragi as her personal savior and inevitably falls for him. In the twelfth episode of Bakemonogatari, while teasing Araragi, Senjougahara manages to ask him out on a date in an especially awkward fashion, “We’re going on a date. No, that’s wrong. That’s not how it’s said. Shall we go on a date? How about going on a date?” The resulting date is nothing normal, as they are accompanied by Senjougahara’s father as a chauffer. Regardless, Senjougahara continues to tease Araragi until they make it to their destination: an open spot in the forest to observe a starry sky. Again, Senjougahara asks for a first kiss in the same awkward way she asked for the date. The anime is uncharacteristically modest with the kiss scene, but it has a wonderful indie film vibe that melds awkwardness with a comfortably heart-warming feeling. Add in Shaft’s trademark animation to emote Araragi’s nervousness and anticipation for his first date, and this episode is a beautiful building block in the two’s budding relationship.

5. Mikazuki and Kudelia in Kidou Senshi Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blood Orphans)

5 Gundam IBO Ep_13 capture
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Oct. 2015 – present "]

The latest Gundam series Iron Blood Orphans from scriptwriter Okada Mari (Anohana, Toradora!) explores heavy themes of child labor and human trafficking on a background of interplanetary warfare. Kudelia Aina Berstein is a young girl from Martian aristocracy hoping for independence from the oppressive rule of Gjallarhorn, a military group from Earth. Kudelia seeks to have negotiations with Earth leaders and is to be escorted by a security firm that employs child workers. Before they can leave Mars, Gjallarhorn attacks the civilian group to thwart Kudelia’s plans, and youngsters are set up to be human sacrifices by their boss. The young laborers fight off Gjallarhorn, rise against their employer, take control of the company, and promise to safely deliver Kudelia to Earth. Kudelia’s privileged upbringing makes her largely ignorant to the struggles of the impoverished Martian civilians. Aware of this fact, she earnestly wishes to learn more about common folk and tries to become closer to a teenaged Mikazuki Augus, a talented Gundam pilot who has been working hard jobs since he was a child. Both have had little time for romance in their short but starkly different lives. After a devastating battle with many casualties, Kudelia sees Mikazuki’s hand shaking and tries to console him with an awkward embrace, imitating what she saw her maid doing for younger children. Mikazuki responds with confusion, so Kudelia pulls away to explain herself. One awkward turn deserves another, so Mikazuki smiles and kisses Kudelia, imitating his company’s mentor. Mikazuki keeps his cool, but Kudelia reels off in adorably confused embarrassment. This awkward and charming kiss scene is just one small part of the surprising character development and emotional tugging you’ll find in Iron Blood Orphans.

4. Kanba and Himari in Mawaru Penguindrum (Penguindrum)

4 Penguindrum Ep_1 capture
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Jan. 2012 – Mar. 2012 "]

Introduced with a poignant soliloquy on fate, the first episode of Penguindrum is the definition of a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Kanba and Shoma are twin brothers and have an ill-fated younger sister Himari who is terminally ill and expected to die soon. Kanba begs the doctor to save his sister, declaring he will do anything for her to live, but the doctor can offer no solution to her illness. During a trip to the aquarium, Himari suddenly collapses and dies, but she is mysteriously brought back to life by a crested penguin hat that Shoma bought for Himari as a souvenir. The brothers are overjoyed and promptly bring Himari home. Himari’s life is extended, but the penguin hat possesses Himari and transports her and the twins to an alternate world. There, she transforms into a condescending princess in a penguin dress and demands the twins cooperate as repayment for extending Himari’s life. After expelling Shoma from the alternate world, the princess reaches into Kanba’s chest to initiate a survival strategy. At the end of the episode, while Shoma is sleeping, Kanba sits next to Himari’s bed, contemplating fate and what it means to be human, and he moves in for an affectionate kiss. Did you feel awkward? Everyone felt awkward after the episode’s surprise ending. After all that buildup, this scene was meant to make you feel uneasy, question everything you just saw, and hopefully watch the rest of the season for the answers to those questions in this psychological drama from Ikuhara Kunihiko (Revolutionary Girl Utena).

2 HoneyClover Ep_12_2 capture
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Apr. 2005 – Sept. 2005 "]

Honey and Clover is a popular josei romance anime that’ll make you laugh, cry, and cheer. The story follows a dynamic group of university art students, accented by an eccentric sculptor Morita Shinobu who, although talented, hasn’t been able to graduate for eight years. The group is introduced to an adorable 18-year-old prodigy Hagu, who is brought to the university by her cousin, an art professor, so that Hagu can learn more about the world. Morita becomes infatuated with Hagu and her art, and the two become inspirational to each other’s artwork. Morita tends to be overbearing with his affection due to an overwhelming fondness for cute things, and Hagu is generally timid and socially awkward due to her sheltered upbringing. One day, Morita finds Hagu alone in a field of cherry blossom trees and wraps his scarf around her. While admiring how cute she looks, he unconsciously kisses her. By the time Morita realizes what he had done, he is overcome with embarrassment, screams for dear life, completely wraps the scarf to cover Hagu’s face, and runs off. Hagu is left behind bewildered in this very awkward and very funny moment.

Top 10 BL/Yaoi Moments in Star Driver [Best Scenes]

BL Yaoi Star Driver 00
[sourceLink asin="" text="" url="" ]

Dazzling the stage, Galactic Pretty Boy! With such a catchphrase, going into the world of Star Driver means you’re expecting sparkling mechas, blindingly gorgeous splash of colors throughout the anime, impossibly good-looking characters, and above all, a godly amount of fanservice. The best thing is that Star Driver’s fanservice does not only appeal to male audience, with its scantily-clad beautiful girls, but also to female audience by offering bare-chested, stunning young men who, oftentimes, drape themselves over one another in a beautiful show of bromantic affection. Aired in Fall 2010, Star Driver was produced by Aniplex and was worked on by Studio Bones, which is already a pretty good guarantee on the quality of animation itself. Aside from its breathtaking colors and animation—hand-drawn mecha battles! Sparkling magical boys!—Star Driver also has a satisfying, solid plot as well as character development, including its main romantic arc: a canon polyamory trio of Takuto, Sugata, and Wako! Well, as canon as it could be, anyway. It also means we get to see countless scenes rife with BL hints, which is definitely a plus. And now, here are ten selections of the BL-hinted scenes in Star Driver—keep an eye out for your favorite one!

[ad_top2 class="mt40 mb40"]

10st Moment Differing Love and Obsession

What better way to start than by highlighting the hint of actual canon gay relationship in Star Driver? Not that it was explicitly stated of course, but considering the plot point where this was brought up, it was obviously hinted that Tsunashi Tokio was in a relationship with Makiba Shingo. Look at the way they’re draped over one another.

BL Yaoi Star 10
[sourceLink asin="" text="Episodes: 20" url="" ]

Tsunashi Tokio, an outsider who was born into a family with a Mark, but was rejected from being granted the Mark by his father, who sees what others can’t, but he is unable to differentiate between love and obsession. Makiba Shingo is one of his obsessions—as stated by Sora, who was Tokio’s previous love-slash-obsession—the one who promised he’d give Tokio his Mark, as well as his Cybody. In the flashback in this episode, it was shown how Tokio slowly withdrew from Sora and Ryousuke, deeper into his obsession with Marks, Cybodies and, later on, Shingo. Shingo’s first appearance was before Ryousuke, agreeing that he’d give Tokio his mark, to which Tokio responded by pulling Shingo into his arms and affectionately led a happily blushing Shingo away. True to its nature of “trio relationship”, this episode also gives us a conversation between Ryousuke and Sora later on, about how Tokio had a new obsession now. Ryousuke admitted that he loves Tokio’s paintings—or rather, he loved the Tokio who paints. Sora left the island, and later gave birth to Takuto, while Ryousuke stayed back by Tokio’s side, until the very end.

9nd Moment Master & Student (but not really)

Sugata and Takuto are more than just best friends—they’re also classmates, partners, house-owner and freeloader, and, somehow, kendo master and student. Not that Takuto is lacking in his dual-swordsmanship skills, but Sugata is also the only heir of the Shindou-style and is a master swordsman capable of defeating both Benio and Takuto multiple times. This particular relationship dated back to episode 13—where Sugata unrepentantly named Takuto his ‘apprentice’ and told Benio to fight Takuto first before he’d accept her challenge. What started as faux master-student relationship turns into actual master-student relationship—in future episodes, we were given scenes of Sugata and Takuto training their swordsmanship skills, with Sugata giving instructions and Takuto obeying his orders.

BL Yaoi Star 09
[sourceLink asin="" text="Episodes: 18" url="" ]

Of note would be episode 18, though, where they were having a match at the beach, and Kei Madoka interfered with her first phase, surrounding them both in darkness and making them see one another as Window Star. Sugata recognized that it was Takuto from his stance, but that’s not the only thing—he even put his own life on the line to protect Takuto there by performing the King’s Pillar, which later put him into a deep slumber, again, without Takuto knowing it. Madoka herself commented on how impressive she found his courage on doing that.

8rd Moment Going on A Date

It’s Wako’s birthday! Being the trio that they are, what better way to spend Wako’s birthday than going on a date—all three of them? Not only we get to see cute trio shenanigans, there are also tiny moments of Sugata and Takuto scattered all over the episode, making it triple the cute. Wako’s birthday begins with the boys sitting her down in the kitchen while they both donned aprons to cook curry rice for her. Domestic Sugata and Takuto in the kitchen abound—from light talks about whether or not Takuto had ever been in a romantic relationship before, Sugata crying over cutting onions, and Takuto sneaking pictures of Sugata crying with a camera he borrowed, then proceeding to coo over pictures of Sugata he managed to snap while he’s freeloading in the Shindou residence with Wako. The one happy wasn’t just Wako who’s living the dream of being pampered by two gorgeous boys, but also the boys themselves; look at how they steal glances at each other and smile!

BL Yaoi Star 08
[sourceLink asin="" text="Episodes: 19" url="" ]

As Wako ate her fourth plate of curry rice, Takuto gave her his prized pocket watch and Sugata’s knife, giving words to what Sugata hasn’t been able to express since he was a child: his determination to protect Wako. To this, Sugata could only smile fondly at Takuto, acknowledging the affection shown. The three then went on a date around the town: taking purikura, going to the movies, sharing a drink together, walk on the beach, and finally, to the karaoke place! Which also brings us to our next selection:

7th Moment Body-snatched

This scene is brief, obviously intended as pure fanservice for the Sugata/Takuto fans, but it’s pretty satisfying in itself! Having spent the whole day together, the trio went into the karaoke place and let Wako let loose her inner-idol dream. The karaoke place just happened to be owned by the Nichi family—where Nichi Keito works part-time (and Takuto, also, but that doesn’t matter for now), and with the odds, of course it’s Keito who brought them the drinks they ordered. Wako slipped out to talk to Keito once her once-best friend left, leaving Sugata and Takuto alone in the room. And no, nothing happened. But meanwhile, Atari Kou and Kei Madoka decided to mess with Kou’s first phase, which enabled the two girls to snatch Takuto and Sugata’s bodies. Both Sugata and Takuto, completely at ease with one another and therefore didn’t have their guards up, were easy targets to play with. Kou took Sugata’s body while Madoka took Takuto’s, and the two girls marveled in amusement over being in male bodies for the first time, leaning close towards each other over the table in the same flirty manner they have always been.

BL Yaoi Star 07
[sourceLink asin="" text="Episodes: 19" url="" ]

Sadly, it doesn’t last long. Kou, in Sugata’s body, proceeded to try flirting with Keito, while Madoka, in Takuto’s body, tried to mess with Wako. They both failed, and in the end, both Kou and Madoka decided to leave Sugata and Takuto’s bodies on the roof, leaning back-to-back, unconscious until Wako found them.

6th Moment Wake up!

From the early episodes, it was pointed very clearly what fate Sugata holds for himself: as the Driver of Samekh, the King of Cybodies, he has a power stronger than anything else in his hands. Except once he apprivoised and activate his first phase, Sugata would fall into a deep slumber and never wake up. Sugata did apprivoise—much to Wako and Takuto’s dismay. But then Zero Time happened and a sleeping Sugata was also summoned into Zero Time, completely defenseless. For the first time, Takuto desperately fought not only to protect Wako, but also Sugata who can’t defend himself even when the enemy rushed towards him. Takuto dived and managed to envelop Sugata into the palms of Tauburn, at the second which, much to everyone’s surprise, Sugata blinked awake. Zero Time ended, and both Takuto and Wako rushed back to the Shindou residence to find Sugata missing. Another flash of King’s Pillar helped them locate Sugata—Takuto arrived first, seeing Sugata half-conscious, surrounded by the Filament group from Glittering Crux. As Scarlett Kiss moved to kiss Sugata, Takuto desperately struggled against both Raging Bull and Speed Kid, managing to throw them both away in the end even though Scarlett Kiss already stole the kiss. Panicking, Takuto reached out and grabbed Sugata’s shoulders, screaming Sugata’s name to try and wake him up.

BL Yaoi Star 06
[sourceLink asin="" text="Episodes: 7" url="" ]

As a last resort, Takuto slapped him hard—which miraculously worked, bringing Sugata back into complete awareness. With the threat of another King’s Pillar, the Filaments retreated, and Wako arrived at the scene to find a relieved Takuto and Sugata—who now looked simply dangerous as he threatened to kill Takuto if Takuto ever hit him again.

5th Moment Forty Seconds

The previous episode might have ended with a strained tension in the three main characters’ relationship, but it isn’t quite a stretch if we dubbed this episode a Sugata-and-Takuto episode, considering it highlighted their relationship and how Sugata and Takuto see each other, as well as what Wako means for them. Long story short, this episode saw Sugata giving both Wako and Takuto a cold shoulder, an obvious attempt to distance himself from the both of them. Takuto being Takuto, of course, confronted him on this, and when they were both ready to fight it out, Zero Time froze their worlds and pulled them into the sealed Cybody dimension. Scarlett Kiss attempted to use Sugata as some sort of libido battery, except Sugata’s power proved too much for her to control, and Sugata ended up controlling her Cybody to dish it out with Takuto. The fight was brutal, but also intimate—as Wako remarked in confusion, they were both laughing as they fought, bare-handed. Scarlett Kiss’ Cybody was destroyed in the fight, as it was unable to contain Sugata’s power, and once the fight ended—dramatically, with an extreme version of fistbump—Zero Time disappeared, returning all of them to their world and time, where Sugata and Takuto faced each other, framed by the gorgeous sunset, panting from the exertion of the fight… for a full forty seconds.

No one thinks the forty seconds panting scene is necessary, but hey, it’s Star Driver. Just make sure you have your earphones plugged in for this episode—passersby might misunderstand about what exactly is it that you’re watching, thanks to Miyano Mamoru and Fukuyama Jun’s forty seconds of heavy breathing.

4th Moment Obligatory “Going in the Bath Together” Scene

Nothing beats the conclusion of best friends’ (or is it boyfriends?) fights like going in the bath together. Which was exactly what Takuto and Sugata did—the next episode opened with the both of them relaxing in the spacious bath of the Shindou residence, soaking side by side as Takuto marveled on having hot bath.

BL Yaoi Star 04
[sourceLink asin="" text="Episodes: 9" url="" ]

What are you talking about, Takuto was totally not sneaking glances and checking Sugata out as he bared his neck. This isn’t the only time the two of them get in the bath together, by the way—and every time, whenever either Tiger and Jaguar called out from outside offering to wash their backs, Sugata would refuse and wave them away. A spacious bath with just the two of them—well, we might as well follow Wako’s example and imagine the rest!

3th Moment Wako’s Fantasy #1

There’s a reason why Wako is the best girl in Star Driver: she’s Sugata’s fiancée, she’s a maiden, she could be fierce when she wanted to be, she loved her boys the same, and most importantly, she’s one of us. One of us? Yes, definitely one of us. As the leader of the Night Flight drama club, Endou Sarina, announced that she was going to put a kissing scene in their newest play, Wako’s first reaction was to look at Sugata, then Takuto, and then let her imagination run wild: a kissing scene between Sugata and Takuto?!

BL Yaoi Star 03
[sourceLink asin="" text="Episodes: 14" url="" ]

Yes, Wako’s imagination was pretty great—pretty detailed, complete with the dialogues she thought up, leaving her flushing beet red to the roots of her hair, even more so when Jaguar sent her a thumbs up for her imagination. Can’t really blame her now, can we? Interestingly enough, when a Star Driver collaboration café opened up in Japan several years ago, one of the dessert menu you could get was named Wako’s Fantasy, and if you ordered that, it came with a free card of this almost-kissing scene!

2th Moment Wako’s Fantasy #2

The almost-kissing fantasy was not Wako’s first fantasy over Sugata and Takuto, though. As early as episode four, we were treated to Wako’s first fantasy—a bit wilder than the previous one, honestly, considering all Sarina said was that the drama club would be pushing all the magnetism they can get out of two pretty boys as Sugata and Takuto. And what Wako imagined, in a scene framed with roses and all-tinted pink, was Sugata pushing Takuto on a bed, both naked, only covered by the strategically-placed roses.

BL Yaoi Star 02
[sourceLink asin="" text="Episodes: 4" url="" ]

“But Sugata, we’re just friends,” Takuto said, to which Sugata replied, “Just until today.” No wonder Jaguar gave Wako a thumbs up. Not to mention that in Star Driver: The Movie, Wako’s Fantasy evolved into a more detailed version of the morning after scene. The joke that Wako’s Y-shaped maiden Mark stands for ‘Yaoi’ has never been more apt. Thanks, Wako.

1th Moment Risking the Whole World for You

If we have to explain the relationship between Sugata, Takuto and Wako, the easiest way would be this: Sugata is the King, Wako the Princess, and Takuto is their Knight. In the surface, their relationship might seem like your ordinary triangle love cliché, but the last episode would banish that notion completely. As a Knight, Takuto did not only put his life on the line for the Princess and the King, but also the entire world. Finding out that Sugata had betrayed them and joined the Glittering Crux Brigade, Takuto and Wako faced off against the whole brigade as the third seal of Zero Time was broken and Samekh rose from its slumber. Just as Sugata, its rightful Driver, apprivoised and got into Samekh, Tokio used Sinpathy to take complete control of both Sugata and Samekh, revealing his grand plan to release Samekh from Zero Time, letting it consume all the libido in the world and wipe out humanity in order to use Samekh’s fifth phase ability to manipulate time at will. Takuto attacked Tokio, demanding him to give Sugata back, and the rest of the Glittering Crux members align themselves with Takuto after hearing Tokio’s scheme revealed, and the fight against Sinpathy-controlled Samekh began. It took everything they had to defeat Tokio, but it wasn’t a happy ending Takuto was heading to. Instead, he and Wako had to watch as it was revealed that Sugata had intended to sacrifice himself to send Samekh back to sleep, sealing himself with Samekh. Realizing this, Takuto recalled Sugata’s words—about how good Sugata was in playing the roles he was given, and how he wanted Takuto to protect Wako. To Takuto, of course, this was unacceptable. Having lost a best friend before, he was not about to let himself lose another important person. So right then and there, he turned to Wako and made the decision: to break the last seal that Wako held and cancelled Samekh’s seal, consequently breaking Zero Time and risking the entire world by letting Samekh out, in order to try and save Sugata. The Knight risked the whole world to get his King back. Tauburn chased Samekh up to the space, managing to destroy Samekh and saved Sugata, who woke up to Takuto smiling at him and a gorgeous starry sky all around him.

BL Yaoi Star 01
[sourceLink asin="" text="Episodes: 25" url="" ]

It’s just like Star Driver to end it with a bang. Like that’s not romantic enough, Takuto told Sugata that they’d see a more amazing sky from now on, and the anime closed with the two staring at the horizon where the sun began to rise.

Star Driver definitely doesn’t only dazzle its audience with its gorgeous animation and more-than-welcomed fanservice, but also a well-written, if slow burn, plot and well-executed character and relationship development. The audience were given a lot of triangles in the whole show, but none of them felt like the cliché love-triangle that usually came with such a setting. That it ended with a technically canon polyamory relationship between Sugata, Takuto and Wako is even more refreshing to watch. If you ended up shipping Sugata and Takuto, not to worry—there are tons of subtly woven, tiny moments of Sugata and Takuto all over the series, aside from the very obvious ones like what these ten selections have showed you. Wako is, after all, one of us. Enjoy the moments and be dazzled by the Galactic Pretty Boys, and let us know what you think!

Top 10 Anime Dates [Best Recommendations]

Romance is a huge part of anime. It many cases, it’s the romance, whether dramatic or comedic, that draw people to anime. It’s also happens to be the sole thing that most fan fiction thrives from. Sadly, it’s rare for an anime to have a normal one-on-one date scene. A good chunk of the time it’s a group date, or an intimacy given during the spur of a moment. Whether that’s because a regular date does not tend to have enough dynamic tension to fully engage readers or the creators have a fear of appearing to cheesy, is something for debate. However, these 10 shows push their characters and their creative minds to create memorable scenes that help not only define the characters but the show as a whole.

[ad_top2 class="mt40"]

10. Shizuku Mizutani and Haru Yoshida from Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (My Little Monster)

[three_images_in_row image1='Shizuku Mizutani Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun' image2='Haru Yoshida Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun' image3='My Little Monster']
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" Oct. 2012 – Dec. 2012 "]

Brains Base’s 2012 hit anime, Tonari no Kaibustu-kun, caught the hearts of a lot of people. Following the ins-and-outs of Haru and Shizuku’s relationship, this romance did not pull away from comedic moments as it presented the icy Shizuku and violent Haru. However, the power behind Tonari no Kaibustu-kun is its ability to portray growth in the rather cliché premise of two unsocial beings working together to push past their awkwardness. This date was special because it more or less struck everyone as slightly heartbreaking. Here, Haru was making a real push to show how much he cares for Shizuku, just as she decided that she can no longer handle the ‘distraction’ of a relationship. It was truly painful for the audience to watch and for Haru to go through, but also a great tipping point for Haru as we watch his eager enthusiasm get shot down by her cold responses. It’s this rejection that acts as one of the major catalysts for his growth.

9. Haruhi Fujioka and Hikaru Hitachiin from Ouran Koukou Host Club (Ouran High School Host Club)

[three_images_in_row image1='Haruhi Fujioka Ouran Koukou Host Club' image2='ouran highschool hikaru' image3='dvd Ouran Koukou Host Club']
[Information episodes=" 26 " aired=" Apr. 2006 – Sep. 2006 "]

In this comedic reverse harem, the audience is introduced to Ouran High School, an elite high school where the children of the richest families go to spend their time. Enter Haruhi, a girl from a more modest background, who most other students mistake for a boy on first sight. Haruhi proceeds to meet Ouran’s infamous host club, a group of six boys who have nothing better to do than entertain countless girls. During this first meeting, the group not only finds out that Haruhi is a girl, but force her into acting as one of the hosts to repay the cost of a vase she broke. Some might argue that this scene wasn’t even a date, because Haruhi is easily one of the densest characters when it comes to sensing the attractions of others; a staple in any harem. Nonetheless, this was definitely a one-on-one outing where Hikaru has the opportunity to take his relationship to the next level. For the most part, the date was rather unromantic as Hikaru lets his jealousy ruin the day. Though Hikaru’s insecurities are hinted at earlier on, this date puts on full display a range of emotions that few would imagine in easily the most mischievous member of the host club. However, when fused with one of the most kind-hearted apologies after leaving Haruhi behind during a storm, the date becomes one of his most honest moments of growth.

8. Banri Tada and Koko Kaga from Golden Time

[three_images_in_row image1='golden time TadaBanri' image2='golden time KagaKoko' image3='golden time dvd']
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" Oct. 2013 – Mar. 2014 "]

Golden Time follows the relationship struggles of Banri Tada, a newly admitted student at a private law school. His orientation proves to be one of the toughest ordeals of his life as he meets an assortment of crazy characters. Despite the overall insanity and workload, the source of his troubles stems from a personal identity crisis, because Tada had been in an accident that wiped his memories. His amnesia coupled with a love triangle that involves the girl he used to love will keep you questioning what fate has in store for Tada. Let’s set the mood. Tada had gone on a little out-of-town trip to attend a reunion. Koko during this time has been missing him a lot and decides that when he gets back, they will have their “Night in Paris.” The build up to the night was actually quite believable, but Koko’s desire “to climb the stairs into adulthood” started to fall apart the moment she presented her “sculpture” of the “Eiffel Tower.” Overall, the scene was still sweet, but it felt like the creators were afraid of making it too sentimental or cheesy and thus made a running gag reflex (literally).

7. Hikari Konohana and Amane Ootori from Strawberry Panic

[three_images_in_row image1='Hikari Konohana Strawberry Panic' image2='Amane Ootori Strawberry Panic' image3='strawberry panic dvd']
[Information episodes=" 26 " aired=" Apr. 2006 – Sep. 2006 "]

The story is centered on Aoi Nagisa as she enters an all-girl Catholic school that shares the same hill as two other all-girl schools. On the very first day, she catches the attention of Etoile Shizuma Hanazono and soon finds herself in the midst of several intimate and complex relationships between students from all three schools. One of the gentlest and most serene moments in this shoujo ai is shared between the first year Hikari and her senpai, Amane. They had a rather simplistic and silent date on a secluded beach. What’s nice about this date though was how much of a role the silence played in it. Not only did it portray the slight inner conflict each of them was feeling about the taboo nature of their relationship, but it showed how well they fit into the silence of one another and simply appreciate each other’s company. It was truly touching and despite threats and warnings from other classmates, they both desired to see each other more.

6. Kazuto Kirigaya (Kirito) and Asuna Yuuki from Sword Art Online

[three_images_in_row image1='sword art online kazuto' image2='Yuuki Asuna Sword Art Online' image3='dvd Sword Art Online']
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Jul. 2012 – Dec. 2012 "]

Sword Art Online came out in 2012 and really took the anime community by storm. It took the concept of VR to the next level as it threw 10,000 people into a video game. If they wanted to escape, then they would have to beat the game. However, dying in the game meant dying in real life, so the question became who is willing to push forward? Well, one such warrior happened to be the rogue-esque Kirito. The fact that Kirito and Asuna got married in-game while being so young is a little bit questionable, if not just weird. However, despite the brashness of that choice, no one can argue that they made a good match. Kirito and his rogue ways played well off of Asuna’s straight-laced attitude. Though watching the two relax in the countryside was a nice breather, the best date was by far when Asuna cooked the rare meet that Kirito caught. It’s a home-like setting and Asuna’s wit is in full swing as she won’t let Kirito get away with anything. It’s a humorous and sweet scene with a few well-timed threats.

5. Yuuji Sakamoto and Shouko Kirishima from Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu (Baka and Test – Summon the Beasts)

[three_images_in_row image1='Yuuji Sakamoto Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu' image2='Shouko Kirishima Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu' image3='Baka to Test to Shoukanju dvd']
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" Jan. 2010 – Apr. 2010 "]

Baka and Test followed the antics of Yoshii and his fellow F class members on they took on the academic hierarchy of their school. What was so great about this school comedy was how it infused a class/battle system based off of test rankings and grades. Not only did having better grades give you a more powerful avatar to fight with, but it also gave you access to better school materials. Possibly one of the most cruel, but playful pairings in recent anime history goes to the brawler Yuuji and the tsundere Shouko. The movie date where Shouko stuns poor Yuki with a taser every time he tries to escape was poetic beauty. However, not enough of the actual date was shown. Thus, let’s focus on the date they had at the amusement park. The first half of this date was a completely one-sided ordeal as Yuki’s friends practically force fed romantic situations down their throat. It did allow for quite a bit of comedy and torture for Yuuji, but the heart of it all was the second half. After an older couple insulted Shouko’s feelings and her dream, Yuki’s resound character pulled through. Not only did he beat the crap out of the guy who was harping on Shouko, but met with Shouko afterwards to share an intimate moment.

Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji follows relationship struggles of 16-year-old high school student Erika Shinohara. Despite never being in a relationship before the events of the show, she boasts to her classmates of a spectacular love life. In fact, she has a photo of a handsome stranger that she claims is her boyfriend. Well that handsome stranger ends up being a new classmate, and in order to avoid the mocking laughter of the entire school she begs him to be her fake boyfriend. He agrees, but only if she does whatever she says. The real question is can these two misguided students form a real bond. Well, soon enough they at least move from a fake master-dog relationship to a real one. From that point on they actually had some rather cute if not slightly bumpy dates. However, things really started to heat up on an emotional level when Kyouya took Erika out to a multitude of places for her birthday. They ate at a nice restaurant, went to the movies, went shopping, and even went on a nighttime boat cruise. However, what makes this whole date special was that Kyouya, who can be rather cold if you’re unfamiliar with the show, is trying to tell her ‘I love you’ throughout the whole date. Thankfully, he did at the very end, making Erika one extremely happy girl.

3. Ritsu Onodera and Masamune Takano from Sekaiichi Hatsukoi

[three_images_in_row image1='Ritsu Onodera Sekaiichi Hatsukoi' image2='Masamune Takano Sekaiichi Hatsukoi' image3='sekaiichi hatsukoi poster']
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" Apr. 2011 – Dec. 2011 "]

Sekaiichi Hatsukoi is Studio Deen’s spinoff of Junjou Romantica that follows Onodera Ritsu as he transfers from his father's publishing company to Marukawa Shoten. However, instead of being assigned to the literature department he is sent shoujo manga division, where he runs into his first love, Takano Masamune. Masamune is the editor-in-chief of the division and immediately begins to give chase much to Ritsu’s disdain. There’s quite a bit of back and forth between the two as Ritsu tries to sort through his feelings. If Ritsu and Masamune did not have their Christmas date, then Sekaiichi Hatsukoi might not have been the hit show that it became. Okay, so that’s an overstatement, but the date acts as one of the most significant turning points in their relationship. What happened was that Masamune’s birthday, Dec. 24, was coming up and Ritsu agreed to go on a drive with him. During this drive, beautifully set in the snow, they shared recollections of how each of them dreamt of the way they would have spent Masamune’s birthday back when they were dating. It was a touching and sincere moment that forced Ritsu to admit that he could not resist his senpai.

2. Takeo Gouda and Rinko Yamato from Ore Monogatari!! (My Love Story!!)

[three_images_in_row image1='ore monogatari Takeo Gouda' image2='ore monogatari Rinko Yamato' image3='ore Monogatari dvd']
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" Apr. 2015 – Sep. 2015 "]

Ore Monogatari!! does a fantastic job pushing out the stereotypical pretty boy routine as well as the clueless, but kind-hearted harem protagonist with its main man, Takeo Gouda. Takeo is a massive character with a heart as big as himself, which might sound like a cliché, but his size has actually inhibited his love life quite terribly. To begin, most girls are terribly afraid of him. Making matters even more heartbreaking for Takeo is that his best friend is the guy that every girl fawns over, including the girls Takeo has liked. Despite the sad premise of this anime, Takeo finally gets Cupid on his side as the cute Rinko Yamato begins to fall for him. One of the best episodes in their growing romance is when Takeo took her on a picnic in the mountains after her birthday celebration was interrupted. That date was extremely cute with a lot of smiles, laughter, and moments that will make you go ‘aww.’ One such particular moment, which made the date extremely special, was that after Takeo went to sleep, Rinko decided to give him a peck on the cheek.

1.Hitagi Senjougahara and Koyomi Araragi from Bakemonogatari

[three_images_in_row image1='bakemonogatari hitagi' image2='bakemonogatari araragi' image3='Bakemonogatari dvd']
[Information episodes=" 15 " aired=" Jul. 2009 – Jun. 2010 "]

Bakemonogatari pursues the misadventures of Koyomi after he runs into the weightless girl, Hitagi. Senjougahara. Not only does he begin to grow a special bond with Hitagi after that moment, but continues to find himself fighting the real inner demons of practically every girl he meets henceforth. In a world filled with gods and demons and an extremely sharp tongue, there will be a lot of dangerous situations in store for Koyomi. What really brings out the power of this date was that you expected their relationship to grow, but you could not have imagined the creators to build such a unique and special scene. Already the show had given its viewers a great plot, strong characters, fun dialogue, and intriguing relationships; and yet this scene’s gorgeous visuals and heartwarming nature blew everyone away. If you haven’t watched the show, you might want to stop reading here. What happened was that Hitagi took Koyomi out to a secluded area in the woods where there’s a clearing that they can view a starry sky. It’s a gorgeous visual, and as Hitagi’s straight-forward nature puts everything out there, you just can’t help but feel the incredible intimacy of the moment. The show accomplishes all this even though all that was shared are words and hands, and a kiss that wasn’t shown, which was rather cruel of the creators. More than anything else, this scene felt real, which considering most anime and the fantastical nature of this one, was an astounding feat.

1 Bakemonogatari capture

Almost every anime has a romance aspect to it that at least one person will ship. That’s just the way the anime community works. However, few shows really take the risk of leaving two characters alone on a planned date. A lot of the time these scenes are just too awkward to fully capture and thus tactics are used to include intimacy at unexpected moments. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially if done well, but when will creators start taking more risks to represent deeper emotions. To write such scenes as in this list meant taking a risk, and these creators have earned a round of applause.

Top 10 Impressive Forest Scenes in Anime

Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro) wallpaper

As someone who was brought up in the UK, a walk around a forest was never a particularly rare thing. Venturing through the pillars of bark, there was always something new to explore as the light shone through the blanket of leaves. To put it short, forests are a magical place and for me in particular, bring back a sense of childlike wonder that just can’t be recreated in so many other media. Anime rarely attempts to portray moments as photorealistic and through art, we find a new perspective on what forests mean to them and the majesty that they hide behind their branches. So, at the risk of diving into an anecdote, here are ten moments where forests enhance the experience.

10. Gin no Saji (Silver Spoon) - Episode 5

gin no saji silver spoon dvd
[Information episodes=" 11 " aired=" Jul 12, 2013 to Sep 20, 2013 "]

Silver Spoon is an incredible series. Hitting the peak of the slice of life genre, this show builds up a familiar, yet foreign world that we can really get invested in. As those “darn city-folk”, being introduced to a rural perspective, particularly in regards to farm-life can give the experience of culture shock, through the medium of narrative. One of the highlights of Silver Spoon shows the members of the Boys Dormitory escaping into the forest, on their way to find a unique sight (Initially inferred to be aliens). However, the highlight of this moment isn’t the punchline at the end where it’s shown to be a particularly cool tractor, but rather the moments that lead up to this. Our protagonist, Hachiken has felt like an outsider from the very start, but this escape is one of his first moments of true camaraderie with his classmates. Each of them stays back due to varying circumstances, urging everyone else to go on ahead and sacrifice the experience that they’d been preparing for all day. Of course, it’s a funny scene and it’s got great dialogue, but it’s also heavily important to the development of Hachiken as an outsider.

9. Nanatsu no Taizai (The Seven Deadly Sins) - Episode 7

Nanatsu no Taizai
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" Oct 5, 2014 to Mar 29, 2015 "]

Taking a step away from the light hearted comedy, let’s move onto heartbreak. Nanatsu no Taizai is an action series that got muddled up. All of our characters have gone through their training, acquired their legendary weapons and achieved true strength… and lost it. Now, with their sights on redemption, they are prepared to get back what they lost. This means that the show is composed of many flashback opportunities to build context. One such moment is when Ban recalls how he achieved invincibility. Up until this point, the characters and audience were combined in the opinion that he had achieved it through shifty means, something Ban never attempted to deny. However, when this scene in the Fairy King Forest is shown, our perspective on Ban changes completely. As a thief, he arrives at the Fountain of Youth with the intention of stealing it, until the protector of the Fountain stops him. But Ban never resorts to violence and decides to stay at the Fountain, eventually becoming friends. Only when the fountain is attacked by a demon does Ban drink the water, but this time reluctantly and at the demands of the protector who gave her life. It’s a strong scene and the development of their relationship is powerful and eventually heartbreaking as they’re torn apart.

8. Hai to Gensou no Grimgar - Episode 1

Those that are into MMORPGs will know the mechanics to a well fought battle. Synergy, teamwork, co-ordination. These are the elements that make up a victory for those who battle in a fantasy world. So to see Grimgar take a perspective on this that is built on incompetent human characters, it’s interesting to see their attempts and be able to spot each of the subtle mistakes they make. This is the scene that the audience is treated to from the very start of the show. To the sound of [K]_NoW_NAME’s first track, this battle is both beautiful and terrifying as we watch through every clumsy motion. Ryosuke Nakamura’s visual style is at its best within a forest environment and this painted aesthetic really comes alive as each motion plays out like a stroke of a brush. Goblins aren’t your typical lifeless enemy and here, they are real beings who are fighting for their own lives and trying to achieve their own victories. It’s a brilliant way to start off the show and whilst it may make for an uncomfortable watch, it’s a valuable one.

7. Hotarubi no Mori e - Meeting

[Information episodes=" Movie " aired=" Apr 15, 1988 "]

Hotarubi no Mori e is one of those brilliant short films that we just don’t get often in anime. Usually our options are constricted between either feature length films or TV productions, but at 40 minutes, this supernatural shoujo film is something that shouldn’t be missed. As a romance story, we follow Hotaru through her life and her encounters with the supernatural Gin. Gin finds a six year old Hotaru lost in the forest and quickly befriends the eccentric girl as Gin introduces himself as a spiritual entity that can only remain on Earth as long as no human ever touches him. It’s a sweet idea for a romance film and this scene deep in the forest offers the premise to a relationship that is destined to never work out.

As a Studio Ghibli classic, My Neighbour Totoro is a spiritual adventure that never fails to impress after countless rewatches. When the Kusakabe family move into an old house in the middle of the forest, they encounter a variety of spiritual beings that eventually help the kids visit their mother. As the figurehead of the spiritual bunch of characters, Totoro stands tall as the silly lump of fur that is always trying to help those that pay it kindness. Unable to retain her curiosity, Mei explores the forest, following magical creatures until they lead her deeper into the forest and inside the trunk of a tree. Here, Mei lands directly on the huge belly of Totoro, a creature so large that any scrap of sanity would cry, “Run away!” But after learning his name (Or rather giving one to him), Mei befriends the creature. But despite the fact that she can’t find him immediately after, he always returns when she needs him most.

[Information episodes=" Movie " aired=" Jul 21, 2007 "]

For fans of the old Studio Madhouse where auteurs were aplenty, Piano no Mori is the perfect film to bring up as a representation of one of Masayuki Kojima’s best. Piano no Mori is the story of an unlikely friendship and passion between a boy who dreams too much and a boy that doesn’t dream enough. After Shuhei is forced to go deep into the forest and play the cursed piano, Kai joins him, attempting to prove that there is nothing wrong with the piano at all. However, after Shuhei attempts to play the piano and delivers no sound, Kai moves in and tries it himself. The result is a brilliant piece that spreads throughout the forest, despite Kai not knowing how to play the piano at all. It’s the premise to a friendship born around the music and a new passion as they decide to achieve their dreams together.

2 Onto more action-packed moments, Attack on Titan delivers with an explosive duel on a titanic scale. This immensely popular action thriller series gave viewers the opportunity to enter a world from the perspective of those that live in fear behind colossal walls from the beasts that lie beyond. With a 2 cour season, several OVAs, 2 movies and its own spinoff series, Attack on Titan reached a global scale in terms of its popularity, appealing even to an audience unfamiliar with anime, but could get attached to the Hollywood action that the series provides. One such moment of Hollywood action is this particular scene and every moment is set alight as debris fly out with every blow. To the epic music of Hiroyuki Sawano, this scene in the oversized forest is particularly brilliant, providing the climax to the arc and showing the importance of Eren’s titan powers within the Recon Squad. The battles between titans were highlights within the show and we can expect a lot more in the second season.

3. Berserk - Episode 13

berserk the golden age arc dvd
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Oct 8, 1997 to Apr 1, 1998 "]

There’s one moment early on within Berserk that truly establishes the extent of Guts’ character. Berserk is a dark fantasy showcasing the events that transpire perhaps the most unfortunate man in the world. Every stage of Guts’ life is wrapped in tragedy and with his enormous sword, he takes any opportunity to return some of that grief to the world. The iconic scene where Guts slays 100 men isn’t one of glory. There’s no hi-fiving or celebration to be had as Guts exhaustingly slays an entire group of knights to protect Casca. Guts has always been portrayed as a powerful character, but this is was the first time we’d really seen him stretched to his limits, a trend that continued later in the show as Guts became more and more powerful.

2. Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (Wolf Children) - In the Snow

ookami kodomo no ame to yuki dvd
[Information episodes=" Movie " aired=" Jul 21, 2012 "]

In the much less brutal Wolf Children, Mamoru Hosoda portrayed family in one of the most unique ways in anime. In this film, Hana must deal with looking after and protecting her two half-wolf children as a single mother. It’s a story that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time as her children forge their own paths in life, thanks to the support of a mother who didn’t give up no matter what. This scene is one of the moments where we really see Hana getting involved in her children’s life as they tumble down a snowy hill together. It’s a big break from the stressful scenes prior where the family were trying to get used to a life in the country and offers a nice moment before further problems arise later on. The forest played a large part within the film, offering a chance for the children to be themselves and eventually became more significant later on as the children decide their future.

1. Mononoke Hime (Princess Mononoke) - The Forest Spirit

mononoke hime
[Information episodes=" Movie " aired=" Jul 12, 1997 "]

Princess Mononoke still remains my favourite Ghibli film and it offered a perfect balance of environmentalist messages alongside spiritual and traditional themes. It’s very much one of Miyazaki’s darker works with various brutal moments throughout in this battle between man and nature where there’s no real villain. There’s a huge variety of scenes to be selected here and this list could very well be transformed into “Top 10 Impressive Forest Scenes That Just So Happen To All Be Princess Mononoke”. But as an animation fan, I have to select the extraordinary debut of The Forest Spirit, animated by Makiko Futaki. As the symbol for nature itself, The Forest Spirit is a truly majestic entity, looking back at us with a human face until it goes on a rampage and becomes something as far away from “human” as possible. It was around this moment that the protagonist Ashitaka’s place in the story became clear as he works to protect both the forest as well as the humans and settle a dispute based on fear of the unknown.

So these are my favourite forest scenes in anime. Forests can allow for new meaning and purpose within scenes or occasionally just allow for a nice backdrop. Whether it’s the detailed backgrounds of Studio Ghibli or the visual expression of Ryosuke Nakamura, this setting lets creators shine as they begin to recreate one of the most beautiful parts of nature. Let me know your favourite forest scenes in the comments below.

Panty shots can set the tone for an anime, whether it’s for comical reasons or extremely awkward situations between the main cast of characters. In some cases, they are inadvertent and bring a very memorable first impression to the females who fall victim to this horrifying experience. When you think of panty shots in anime, the first thing that comes to mind is a genre that not only routinely displays it, but in some cases, exploits it to no end. If you haven’t guessed it by now, it’s the ecchi genre. Naturally, ecchi will have a strong presence on this list. Fans of that anime type will without a doubt recognize some of these images on this list. We will also exhibit some scenarios from other categories as well. These panty shots are ranked based on several factors, they include, but not limited to, memorable situations, presentation, color and type. Well here we are, the moment of truth. It’s time to bask in the unpleasant or pleasant (depending on who you ask), panty reveals. Honey’s Anime is pleased to bring you this top 10 anime panty shots.

[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" Apr. 2015 – Jun. 2015 "]

Starting off the list is Ito Hikiotani from the anime Punch Line. In the first episode, the spirit of Yuta was in search for this ritual book to reunite his spirit and his body. He was told that the book was somewhere in the house he is living in. Easy enough right? Well the first thing he found was Ito, and with that came a glimpse of her wonderful striped panties. Needless to say he got more than he bargained for. That partnered with another panty shot shortly after, set the rules for the anime in the scene that followed. Ito is a blonde haired shut-in who tends to avoid people as best as she can. All she was looking for was some shampoo. However in this situation, it couldn’t be helped. Who’s to know that a spirit is watching her stretch? Luckily for Yuta, Ito wasn’t aware of his presence. I think it’s safe to say things would have ended up a little differently, had he not been a spirit. What makes this unique is that he didn’t have any backlash from Ito, due to him being invisible to her. However, there was a negative impact that he certainly felt shortly thereafter.

The next one on our list is a rather peculiar inclusion. Rikantz Seaberry or better known as “Ritz” in the series Daimidaler: Prince vs. Penguin is a very passionate and loving female to the penguin empire. When she found out that they were doing battle with the Robo Daimidaler in episode three, she wanted quick entry into the penguin fold. She has a lot to offer, including kindness and loyalty. On that note, what did Ritz have to do to get what she wanted? Well, I’m glad you asked. She had to go through what was known as a “penguin exam” to appease her own goals. Before the penguin exam took place, the empire needed to take “important” information from her. So they quickly undressed her with little to no resistance from Ritz. They compiled her body measurements and left her in those lovely pale blue panties. Barely even fazed at what just transpired, she got dressed back up and was ready for her exam. There is one task she was ordered to do, and that was to defeat one of their own kind. Her love for the penguin empire escalates even further as the series unfolds. There aren’t any females on this list that had penguins caress them and expose their panties for their “research”. It’s a unique situation to say the least, so with that, we feel it should get a spot on this list.

Well here we are at number eight and you had to know that someone from High School DxD was going to make this list. In this case it happens to be the sweet and innocent Asia Argento. We’re going all the way back to the first season and episode two, where the main perv, uh, protagonist Issei Hyoudou meets Asia. After a late night out doing his devil duties, Issei wakes up the next day and heads to school only to find a female in religious garb, face-down on the ground. Issei of course, opts to ogle at her greatly detailed rear-end, instead of try to help her up. After an awkward introduction, he finds out her name is Asia Argento. With this anime giving us so many glorious panty shots, it was hard to nail down one that we thought was really important. However, we felt that the debut to Asia in the series mixed with Issei’s reaction was enough to put this on our list.

We get introduced to a high-spirited and cute, Kotori Itsuka, just minutes into the first episode. She is seen dancing in her older brother’s room, having a blast. It’s clear her intentions are to give Shidou Itsuka one heck of a wake-up call. It was then; the way Kotori chose to get him up that left an impact on us. We’ll guide you through this. Kotori proceeds to jump up and down on his bed, before jumping in the air with some bad intentions. We as the audience, quickly forget what her true intentions are when her pink and white striped panties are flashed in mid-air. They were shown elegantly in slow motion, so the viewers had ample time to catch more than just a glimpse. Then before we know it, her endgame appears and she sends her one foot into his stomach. Her skirt blissfully soaring in the air was a treat for us fans, but not so much for Shidou Itsuka. What a way to wake up! Somehow he managed to go back to sleep before getting up on his own, after scaring Kotori away.

Episode eight brings us, an extreme example at what can happen at school when you’re lending a helping hand. Hinata Hino was in class and she overheard someone talking down to Yukiteru Amano, the main character of the series, who had recently just transferred to a new school. Hinata smacked the bully with a notebook and it knocked Yukiteru, of all people to the ground. She outstretched her hand to help him up, and sure enough, he reached out and fell forward and tugged down Hinata’s shorts. The consequences of that mix up revealed her adorable green and white striped panties to the whole classroom. Suffice it to say, Hinata wasn’t very pleased with Yukiteru’s mishap and she slapped him with her notebook before the teacher came in. We selected this particular panty shot at the number six slot, because of strictly the design and situation. Not only does the panty shot show off a cute little ribbon on the front, but you can also imagine how embarrassed Hinata must have been. What an unenviable situation, having her fellow classmates gawk at her panties. This one takes the cake for being the most embarrassing reveal on this list.

Here we are at the mid-way point, and we’ve come to our first OVA on the list. If you’re a fan of The Testament of Sister New Devil series, then you will enjoy this raunchy OVA. As if the series wasn’t already chock full of fan service, the OVA takes it up a notch. Around the eight minute mark, the main protagonist Basara Toujou sits down to enjoy a home-cooked soup from succubus Maria Naruse. After biting into his soup, Basara, happens to notice something rather odd and stretchy. What did he find? Well Mio Naruse’s panties! The childhood friend of Basara, Yuki Nonaka, comes out to the dining room and gets the impression from Maria that he enjoys to eat panties. Not to be outdone, Yuki proceeds to take off her blue and white panties right in front of the two and offer them to Basara to eat. Of course he doesn’t eat them, but the fact that Yuki would even consider offering them up for him to eat is on a whole new level for this list. I don’t think I need to say why we found this memorable, the proof is in the panty, uh, pudding.

This one has some similarities to our number six selection, in regards to the setting. The reason this one is rated at number four, is simply because of two reasons, number one Sohara Mitsuki and Tomoki Sakurai are childhood friends. That can be a recipe for disaster to have a childhood friend, like Tomoki, get a solid peep at her panties. At the same time, it can make things more intimate. The second reason is because Sohara was dawning one of, if not, the cutest panties on this list. I’ll set the stage for you. The end of class came and Sohara walked over to give Tomoki his lunch that she made for him. They were the last few in the classroom, and on their way out, Sohara, tripped and fell face first on the ground. While vulnerable and shocked, Tomoki was greeted with a panty shot of his voluptuous childhood friend. Sohara had an adorable teddy bear on her white panties. She was fortunate enough not have the entire class around her when this happened on episode two of this series. It would not be the last time Tomoki would see Sohara’s panties, but we felt those panties were too lovely to pass up.

Ahh yes, Dragon Ball, what a classic and by far the oldest anime on the list, with good reason. In episode fifty, the group of Krillin, Goku and of course Bulma, are exploring an underwater cave, in search for a dragon ball. On their path to finding the treasure, they come across numerous booby-traps. The one that stood out to us was the lava pit. Upon falling, the main protagonist Goku, uses his power pole to save himself and his friends from the lava that they were merely inches from touching. So much so, Bulma ended up getting her strawberry designed panties burned. Once she reaches the ground safely, she is sure to let the boys know how close she was to death. This isn’t the only panty shot that we receive from Bulma throughout the series, but this one was chosen carefully due to the implications of what followed shortly after their adventure in that cave. Even after roughly thirty years, this still has a place in some of our hearts. It’s especially humorous that a hot-head like Bulma, literally and figuratively gets burned.

Coming in at number two is an OVA series that is synonymous for their obligatory panty shots. It’s rare to see an anime go through so much trouble to find ways for females to expose their panties. I suppose, giving the entire female cast short skirts and action scenes, is a start. Why not have them fall over in compromising positions, like face first with their butt in the air? You got it! That’s AIKa R-16: Virgin Mission in a nutshell. If you like panty shots, this is arguable the king of panty shots. Eri Shinkai is one of the three main protagonists in this series, along with Karen Minamino and the titular character Aika Sumeragi. In this particular scene of episode one, we have Eri and Aika under attack by several females that were on the yacht with them. After a large fight breaks out in Eri’s room, involving tranquilizer darts. Aika, with a little bit of help from Eri, dispatch the threat and to their surprise they find some sort of device near the attackers tailbone. Of course, the way they noticed this, was that one of the girls was passed out hanging over the side of the couch. The entire scene had Eri, fight/hide in her lingerie, which included a lovely red and black lace underwear.

Congratulations, we’ve made it to number one! I don’t think this one is too shocking for some people out there. The reasoning for this to be our number one selection is for many reasons. The first reason is because, well, it’s the only one on the list that exploits a thong. Another reason is because; she is fighting zombies with an apron on and a thong underneath. Saeko brings bloodshed, a sword, an apron and a thong, what a combination in this episode. Did I mention a thong? High School of the Dead is one of the only ones on this list that the female is comfortable with her panties revealed the way they are. Not only does Saeko rock that look, but she looks great mutilating zombies as well. This takes place in episode seven, when the group of survivors spots a little girl named Alice Maresato and her little dog in the distance. They move out to go save her from the horde of impending death, better known as zombies. Saeko proves that you can be sexual, but deliver an intimidating performance that is more than capable.

One day, you sat down to enjoy some good anime time. Lucky you, today your favorite characters are patronizing their favorite restaurant. You get this special peek into their everyday life, but what do you find? You find a WcDonald’s or a Moonbucks or something else that is supposed to be named something else. You think, “Seriously? Really?” There it is, the imposter store. Usually these brand name stores appear in anime to bring a sense of realism to our drawn heroes and heroines, but licensing a trademark is expensive. It’s so much easier to just slop up the name a bit and dodge the need to do anything legal. WcDonald’s is the norm, but sometimes, the anime creators flex their creative muscles, and we get some gems in the re-name game of famous shops.

As per the title, the slice-of-life OreImo is all about Kousaka Kyousuke’s cute imouto (little sister), who on the outside is average but is also a model; however, she’s hiding a pretty serious ero-ge (erotic games) obsession with a particular taste for “little sister” storylines. Who doesn’t love a cute little sister? Still, we don’t take it as far as Kirino, who just can’t get enough of the cutesy goodness. It’s a comedic little tale of a brother trying to help his little sister with her little sister complex, and by “help” we mean “nurture.” Just in case you didn’t know this show would be all about sister complexes, suddenly we see a SisterMart, an obvious reworking of FamilyMart, a famous convenience store chain that originated in Japan. This particular SisterMart is the setting of an ecchi-ful scene when Kirino drenches herself with water for reasons. Blatantly with the exact same colors, and characteristically missing a space between “Sister” and “Mart,” this parody store drives in the fact that this show is about a sister and sister complexes. We’ve already written “sister” so much that it’s starting to feel like it’s spelled wrong or something, so we’re going to stop.

In Bakuman, our protagonist duo Mashiro Moritaka and Takagi Akito are fearlessly trying to make a popular manga that can become the pillar of Shonen Jack, which would be Shonen Jump in real life. The re-naming doesn’t end there. Shonen Jack manga writers would occasionally meet their editors at the nearby Gonythan’s for a change of pace. If you were watching and thought, “Oh man, that looks a lot like a Denny’s,” you wouldn’t be far off. Gonythan’s of Bakuman is a purposeful misspelling of Jonathan’s, a chain of “family restaurants” in Japan, largely modeled after similar family establishments in America, such as the lovely diner Denny’s. Denny’s also exists in Japan in a similar capacity and can sometimes be found in anime as Benny’s (To-Love Ru) or Danny’s (Date A Live). Family restaurants are popular for having a wide variety of western, Japanese, and fusion food, along with an assortment of beverages and desserts, so you’ll be sure to see a lot of these types of establishments in anime.

Space Dandy might be a dandy guy in space, but not one episode goes by without our fearless crew taking a pit stop at their favorite Boobies branch to meet their favorite waitress Honey. Dandy and his crew are not-so-great alien hunters, trying to find new alien species to have registered in return for cold hard cash. Beyond that, they are just average guys who enjoy the female physique. It’s easy to say such an obviously name store is blatant fan service, but to their defense, there is an actual chain of “breastaurants” named Hooters, with hundreds of shops worldwide. Whereas these types of real-life eateries will usually employ a double-entendre for their name, Space Dandy parodies such places by calling a duck a duck, or in this case, calling a booby a booby.

Raul was a hero-in-training but before he could take a swing at the big guy, the demon lord was defeated. He put his dreams of being a hero behind him and got a real job. In an odd-couple twist, the demon lord’s daughter Fino also finds herself in dire straits, so she takes a job running the register at Reon. Magic Shop Reon has all the necessities from Papasonic washing machines and Zony Magic Vision televisions to light bulbs and disaster supplies, you can get anything and everything. Its real life counterpart would be the similar-sounding Japanese brand Aeon store, which carries everything, similar to Walmart or Sears. In today’s digital age, brick and mortar shops aren’t the only ones under the anime name-change attack. In Terror in Resonance, Japan’s police meetings of old talking heads appears utterly useless to the digital-literate terrorist duo. In addition to having to be briefed on technology like Tor routers, the Japanese police force find themselves having to answer fire with fire by using their own live streams. From Twitter to Amazon to things of more illegal nature, Nine and Twelve use a number of online resources that are common of hacking groups like Anonymous. One thing they have most in common with the real Anonymous is that they announced their famous Sphinx riddles using MeTune, an especially YouTube-looking video uploading service. In the first episode of Terror in Resonance, there was no mistake that the “video uploading service” that hosted Sphinx’s first cryptic message was in fact YouTube, complete with logo. Yet, by Episode 3, the YouTube doppelganger had to be changed, probably due to legal backlash. The YouTube logo was replaced by a blue and black logo that reads “MeTune,” but they’re not fooling anybody. Arguably though, it could also be one of the very real YouTube copycat sites, but a copy is still a copy! Finally, in an ironic stroke of brilliance, Nine and Twelve’s voice actors donned the Sphinx masks to present and attempt to solve Mensa riddles in a series of short videos. Yes, you read that correctly: The actual actors behind Nine and Twelve put on Sphinx masks and implore you to solve legitimately difficult riddles. These videos were made under a collaboration of Terror in Resonance and Japan Mensa, you know, the “high IQ society.” Of course, these videos would eventually make their way to YouTube, where they belong.

When people think of a chain coffee shop, they think of Starbucks. The company enjoys constant popularity in Japan, where it’s just as ridiculously expensive as in America. You may have seen parodies of this brand as Moonbucks in The Devil is a Part-Timer, as Starbacchus in Nisekoi, or as Starchild in Ghost in the Shell. Perhaps, as a stab at the chain or its clientele, the brand even shows up as Starjackass in Onegai Twins. Starbucks, true to life, can pop up anywhere in anime. Still, as with most of these parodies, the famous coffee house is most likely to appear in the slice of life genre. When the characters in the mega-hit romantic comedy Toradora! go for a cup of joe, where else could they possibly go but Sudoh-bucks? Our fearless hero Takasu Ryuuji isn’t one to shy away from pointing out the obvious rip-off of the famous brand. In especially meta fashion, Ryuuji ponders, “How is this place not getting sued?” Yes, how are they not getting sued, indeed.

4. Maid Latte from Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

[Information episodes=" 26 " aired=" Apr. 2010 – Sept. 2010 "]

Maid-sama! was the shoujo romantic comedy that trumped all other shoujo romantic comedies during its run on the airwaves; but our favorite heroine Ayuzawa Misaki wouldn’t have had such an interesting life if it weren’t for her super otaku workplace, a lovely and active maid café called Maid Latte. Because Misaki’s part-time job clashes with her image as a tough class president at school, Usui Takumi was very entertained seeing Misaki giving a too cute, “Welcome home, master” to patrons of Maid Latte. Beyond watching a funny budding romance, we get to learn way too much about the ins and outs of a maid café. If you didn’t know, maid cafés are real, and there are a number of popular maid brands in Japan. Maid Latte is modeled after such establishments, although due to the nature of maid cafés, it would be hard to pin it down to just one. They’re usually full of cute girls in maid costumes who, on special occasions, will cosplay according to a theme-of-the-day. Of course, you can find maid cafes in a number of series, including the cat-themed Maid Queen Nyan-nyan in Steins;Gate. Still, Maid-sama really hit the nail hard on the head as far as the type of services you can expect at a real maid café: maids drawing cute things on your food in ketchup or syrup, cutesy catchphrases, and fancy desserts. Oh, there are a lot of frilly maid costumes too, if that’s your cup of tea.

3. Maji Burger from Kuroko no Basket (Kuroko’s Basketball)

[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" Apr. 2012 – Sept. 2012 "]

As a quick and easy way to let you know, “Hey, this guy is really American,” Kuroko no Basket has their recently returned power forward Kagami Taiga eating a mountain of burgers at Maji Burger. Here, he runs into his new teammate Kuroko Tetsuya, who likes Maji’s vanilla shakes. The choice of menus is representative of the characters themselves: Kagami is a mountain of muscle. Kuroko is understated and an unpredictable. After the chance meeting at the Maji, the two make the fateful decision to defeat the greatest high school players in the country, the Generation of Miracles, together. Maji Burger, much like Maid Latte, is hard attribute to one specific brand, because most fast food burger joints will generally appear the same. It’s possible the Seirin favorite Maji Burger was modeled after McDonald’s. Look at those fry box designs! It’s not much of a stretch that an American-raised high school student would go to a fast food restaurant and eat way too much. It’s also pretty true that fast food vanilla shakes have a strangely thin but creamy appeal. Maji, however, isn’t getting this ranking so much for its accuracy, but more for its staying power. Be it a very important plot point or good old Seirin comic relief, the scenes that happen at the Maji Burger are the ones that fans won’t ever forget.

The people you meet at your part-time job can be some of the most unique and interesting people you will ever meet. This factoid of life holds true for Umio, who meets a whole bunch of quirky folks at his job at a manga store called Umanohone. Sensei is a doujinshi mangaka who is teased for lacking “girl power.” Fu Girl has an unhealthy obsession with zombies and normally teams up with the big and tough-looking Sommelier, who can choose the perfect manga for anyone with just a look. Overall, working at Umanohone looks like it would be a whole of fun. Guess what? It’s possible, given some special circumstances, but still possible. Umanohone is a parody of the real-life manga store Toranoana, as umanohone means “the horse’s bone,” and Toranoana means “the tiger’s lair” in Japanese. With all the manga books showcased in this anime, otakus can only hope that working at a manga store would be everything Denki-gai promises it to be. Seriously though, if anyone knows the real-life version of Sommelier who can make perfect personalized manga recommendations, please leave contact information of such a person in the comments. Thank you.

While watching anime, like Sakamoto desu ga?, there was probably a time you thought, “What’s up with the WcDonald’s?” That’s not the case for The Devil is a Part-Timer!! It’s MgRonald’s! The demon lord Sadao Maou, in a daring escape from a horrible defeat in his world, somehow ends up in modern-day Tokyo. Unfortunately, in the dimension jump, he lost most of his magical power. With no credentials and desperate for cash, Maou takes a job at the local MgRonald’s. Yes, obviously MgRonald’s is McDonald’s, no question. Unlike other anime though, the fast food parody isn’t just another random meeting spot for people living off allowances. Instead, our protagonist spends every day working hard and becoming a respectable member of the community at MgRonald’s. Their rival company would be none other than Sentucky Fried Chicken. Do I even need to say it? Although the anime didn’t have any real legal connection with McDonald’s, The Devil is a Part-Timer! is good free PR for the global fast food empire. A place that even can help a fallen demon lord get back on his feet, MgRonald’s could be the perfect job for you too!

Conclusion

Art often imitates life, but due to trademark laws, it can’t always be a carbon copy. Yet, when your main or supporting characters are supposed to work at your everyday fast food joint or convenience store, why world build when you could just parody the name? Regardless, the parody store can give you that sense of real and everyday: “Hey, these characters are going where I go, eating what I eat, and working where I could work, maybe.” It helps us relate to the characters in a more personal way, so as ridiculous as some of these made-up names can sound, they are still hilariously welcome in our anime lives.

Gurren Lagann dvd
[sourceLink asin="B000WM83A0" asin_jp="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" April 2007- September 2007 "]

Let’s kick this list off with an action anime already laced with comedy. Coming in at number ten is Gurren Lagann. The story follows our two heroes, Simon and Kamina. Both lived in an underground village where neither fit in. Until a giant robot known as a Gunman came crashing through their very own roof. With the help of a spunky sniper, Yoko, they have now been freed from their underground world. Now Simon, Kamina, and Yoko live on the surface to fight back against the Gunman and their pilots known as Beastman. In episode twelve, the members of Simon’s team, Dai Gurren, take a day to relax and have fun at a beach. The beach itself has clear water, beautiful white sand, and the nearest clouds are out in the distance leaving them with plenty of sun to take in. While there, Dai Gurren enjoys playing volleyball, and smash the watermelon. To top it off, Simon and his team end their experience with a good old fashioned sea shore barbecue. How else are you suppose to enjoy a trip to the beach? Maybe, spend the rest of the time gawking at the girls in their swimsuits like Kittan and the rest of the clowns from team Dai Gurren. Though when Yoko is getting less attention than Nia she begins to lash out in a fit of jealousy. So, the competition to see who’s better kicks off as Yoko tries to show off her strengths, literally, with some volley ball and smash the watermelon.

9. Shuffle!

[sourceLink asin="B0009RP3VK" asin_jp="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" July 2005- January 2006 "]

High school is one of the craziest points of anyone’s life. This goes double for Rin Tsuchimi who finds himself torn between countless women that want him in our number nine entry, Shuffle!. Now that I think about it, his high school experience isn’t bad. Verbena Academy has allowed gods and demons to join the school after a mysterious gate opened years ago. One day, Rin is given a choice to be king of the gods or the demons by taking on one of the current king’s daughters, Sia or Nerine. Episode nine has Rin and his harem enjoying their summer break at the beach. There’s a few things that put this beach on our list. The male reaction to Sia, Nerine, Asa, and the rest of the girls coming out in their swimsuits was hilarious, and the youngest girl, Primula, goes out and builds sandcastles, that get washed away by the tide. The most important factor is the romantic setting at night. The calm water reflecting the light of a pale white moon as Rin and Sia spend the last few hours together in paradise looking into each other’s eyes under the stars as they lean in for, what would be, their first kiss. And it would have happened if Rin and Sia’s friends weren't peeping on them. Poor Sia can’t catch a break.

8. Fairy Tail

[Information episodes=" 175 " aired=" October 2009- March 2013 "]

The beach can be a magical place for anyone, especially for a powerful mage. Number eight for best anime beach scenes is Fairy Tail. Lucy Heartfilia, an aspiring celestial mage, teams up with Natsu Dragneel when he invites Lucy to join his guild, Fairy Tail. The guild consists of many mages that take on job requests, hone their magic, and enjoy spending time with those they have forged bonds with. Lucy and Natsu, along with Erza, Gray, and Wendy, embark on many adventures that will leave you laughing or crying, sometimes in the same episode. In episode one-hundred and fifty three, Lucy and Natsu head to the beach for some training, along with others from Fairy Tail. This beach has a lot of fun to offer, like building sand castles and laying out to tan. What really sets this beach apart is the theme park complete with roller coasters and a ferris wheel, which adds on to the excitement. Not to mention the awesome beach side hotel where you can kick back and unwind from a full day spent in the sun. Still, Lucy and Natsu’s team still take time to train. Natsu uses the underwater pressure of the ocean to amp up his fire dragon roar. Gray and Juvia use the ocean to focus on control over their magic and the water that surrounds them. Erza takes on sprays from the waves by slashing at water droplets to hone her accuracy, and Lucy uses the peaceful atmosphere to meditate so she can call upon more magic.

7. Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist)

Blue Exorcist dvd
[sourceLink asin="B01DJ62KHM" asin_jp="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" April 2011- October 2011 "]

When you go to the beach you typically bring your friends, but it doesn’t hurt to have an exorcist in training either. For number seven we give you Blue Exorcist. Rin Okumura is a rebellious teenager who is trying to find his way in life. Too bad his journey leads him to finding out that he is the son of Satan. After turning his father down regarding taking over the human world, Rin decides to become an exorcist to combat Satan’s plans. This is where Rin’s training begins to control his newfound demon powers with the help of his brother, Yukio. Episode seven of Blue Exorcist puts Rin on a “mission” that turns out to be working a barbecue stand at the beach. Anyone would take this mission on. This beach has beautiful, calm waters with wildlife like Seagulls enjoying the sun with everyone else. Here you have tourist attractions like Rin’s barbecue stand on the actual beach along with other attractions like a lighthouse. There’s plenty to enjoy and relax with in this beach scene.

6. Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions: Heart (Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren)

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai dvd
[sourceLink asin="B009KGCCHE" asin_jp="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" January 2014- March 2014 "]

For number six on the list we are going to hit the beach like we are kids again! Up next we have Love, Chunibyo & other Delusions: Heart. The second season to the original Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions has Yuuta and Rikka living together. Yuuta is having to learn how to date a chunni girlfriend while trying to keep their living situation a secret. Things get a little complex when an old friend of Yuuta’s, Sophia, shows up and old feelings begin to come back. This beach scene was really cool because it takes you back to how you would play on the beach as a kid. Having “sword fights” and pranking friends was definitely on the agenda. This beach scene is also good because it’s a bay so the water is calm for tubing, and there’s even a food shack on the beach where Yuuta, Rikka, and their friends hang out. During this scene there was also a love rivalry that escalated to a “magic” fight.

5. Bokurano

bokurano dvd
[sourceLink asin="B00T5DYV62" asin_jp="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 24 " aired=" April 2007- September 2007 "]

For number five we’ve got Bokurano. Takashi Waku and his 14 campmates are hanging out by the ocean when they find a grotto. In the grotto they find a lot of tech and it’s creator, Kokopelli. Kokopelli convinces the kids that he is developing a video game, and wants Takashi and his friends to test it out. All of them sign a contract to do so except for one. Next thing you know, Takashi and the 14 other kids wake up on the beach and believe their experience to be a dream. The beach in Bokurano, in episode one, is awesome because of it’s natural setting. This beach is virtually untouched by man so the entire scene is natural. So, this beach is hidden from the world and Takashi and his campmates have it all to themselves. What else could a group of kids ask for but to have their own private beach?

4. Another

Another dvd
[sourceLink asin="B006L16Z88" asin_jp="" text="" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" January 2012- March 2012 "]

Creeping in for number four is none other than Another. Middle schooler Kouichi Sakakibara transfers to class 3-3 at Yomiyama North. While there he finds that there is a dark presence looming over the class. Sakakibara begins to get close to what seems to be the social outcast of the class, Misaki. However, the closer he gets to Misaki the closer Sakakibara gets to knowing exactly what this dark feeling is. Even dark anime can have their bright moments. In episode eight, Sakakibara and his friends spend time at the beach for some fun in the sun. This beach in particular is stunning with the way it’s portrayed. The crystal blue water shimmers in the sunlight, as the thick clouds glide over the horizon. Gentle waves roll in as Sakakibara and Misaki enjoy their time with their friends by swimming, eating watermelon, and playing jokes on each other.

3. Nisekoi: False Love (Nisekoi)

Nisekoi False Love dvd

[Information episodes=" 20 " aired=" January 2014- May 2014 "]

Where’s the best place to take the girl you like? The beach of course! That’s what we plan to do for number three in Nisekoi. Bonyari High School first-year student Raku Ichijou is completely in love with his long time friend Kosaki Onodera. However, he couldn’t get any farther from her when, to stop a war between the Yakuza and the Mob, he gets an arranged marriage to the Mob boss’ daughter, Chitoge Kirisaki. To make things worse Raku and Chitoge can’t stand each other, yet they have to pull off being the “perfect couple” to prevent their families from fighting. Episode eighteen had a lot of good points for being so high up on our top ten. The most notable points are the scene and the mood it sets. You already have a beautiful shimmering sea and golden clouds as the sunsets. When the sun’s down and the moon is high with this beach scene, it may be the perfect opportunity to get closer to the girl you love. Raku took advantage of this and got to sit with Onodera on the pier under the moonlight. Even being with the girl he loves, Raku still finds himself alongside the ocean with Chitoge. This really is a love triangle.

2. Guilty Crown

[Information episodes=" 22 " aired=" October 2011- March 2012 "]

Let’s jump into the future a bit to see what the beach scene will be in a few years. For number two we have Guilty Crown. In the year 2039, Japan has been placed under the rule of the organization GHQ to prevent the spread of the “Apocalypse Virus” that’s plagued the country for ten years. Shuu Ouma is a timid individual that is forced into a life as a “terrorist” when he aids Inori Yuzuriha, a member of the group Funeral Parlor. When Shuu gains the King’s Power, he has to fight against GHQ and begin to find who he truly is. This beach scene, in episode 8, is an incredible set up. You have your own personal beach house on the same beach as a high end resort. Clear blue water and white sand in front of you and there’s not a care in the world. Then to make things better you have the girl of your dreams with you in this setting. This is paradise at it’s finest. Shuu and the members of funeral parlor do take advantage of this scene as a cover up for an operation. See, work can be fun too. Even if it is to break into a top secret GHQ base.

[Information episodes=" 1 " aired=" November 2014 "]

Coming in at number one we finish our list with Expelled from Paradise. When the world as we know it has become uninhabitable where can humanity run? All of life can’t be placed in space with the limited resources the Earth has. So, humanity had it’s mind digitized and lives in a virtual reality within the space station DEVA. When a hacker on Earth threatens this new way of life, it is up to Angela Balzac to protect the current way of life. This movie opens up with a very good beach scene. There’s the main beach with crystal water and bright sunshine. There’s plenty of space for everyone to enjoy themselves to the fullest and really brings a piece of mind. What really makes this the best scene is that since this is a virtual world, you have the capability to create your ideal beach scene. The scene is literally what you make it to be, and the opening scene already has an incredible beach. Just imagine the possibilities from there.

Kicking off our top ten anime punches is Accel World, where Haruyuki squares off against Seiji in an intense battle. Words are traded between the two fighters before much of the action starts to explode. We decided to choose this awesome punch because it was a great start for the rest of the incredible punches on our list. Haruyuki has had enough of Seiji's talking and so he charges up his robot suit and makes his way towards Seiji at Mach four speed. In a scream of anger, Haruyuki unleashes a megaton punch that sends Seiji to another universe and changes the color of the moon from a blue to a purple tint, which is evidence of how unbelievably powerful his punch was. We highly suggest checking out Accel World not just for this spectacular punch, but also the wonderful story that comes along with it.

Akame ga Kill makes its way to our number nine spot on the top ten anime punches, and this time we have Tatsumi against Nyau. A lot took place during episode 8 but this fight was definitely one of the finer moments, since it really gave us a glimpse of Tatsumi's true power. The fight started off with the two introducing each other graciously before the true battle ensued. As the battle erupted we could clearly start to see who was ahead in terms of power, and Tatsumi was that very individual. Nyau tried his best to fight back delivering counter attacks to keep Tatsumi at bay, but all it took was a transformation to seal the deal. Nyau and Tatsumi clashed fists just before Tatsumi unleashed a critical punch that sent Nyau flying back and pierced him into the wall covered in blood. Tatsumi ended up winning but lost all of his power shortly after, with his colleagues coming to his aid.

Fairy Tail released during the fall of October 2009 and since then it has grown dramatically in popularity. The series concluded in March of 2013 but it made sure to leave a mark on the anime community with its fun loving characters, and over the top action. One of our favorite punch scenes from Fairy Tail was in episode 115 between Gildarts and Bluenote. While the fight ended quite quickly, the action that took place prior was pure gold. Bluenote was on the edge and Gildarts had all the momentum on his end, and so he took advantage of the situation and connected with a super uppercut that sent Bluenote flying upwards in a spiral motion, leaving everyone speechless including ourselves. The juxtaposition of Gildarts fist with Bluenote's chin was just perfect as it connected with the right amount of power to send him to the next dimension and us to grab a tissue from the tears of laughter. Fairy Tail is a must watch for anyone who loves comedy and action!

Shizuo is the tall, slim, and well dressed quiet hero who wanders around the city of Ikebukuro as a bodyguard for a debt collector. Most of the time he is generally very nondescript in his demeanor until he's provoked, which happened early in episode 3 of the series. Shizuo carries intense animosity towards Izaya who always taunts him knowing that he has a short fuse. In this particular scene Izaya, Shizuo and the rest of the cast are surrounded by the gang known as The Dollars. One of the members randomly loses his cool under fear and charges toward Shizuo with a wooden stick breaking it over his head. Unfortunately for this guy, Shizuo doesn't take kindly to this warm welcome and delivers a punch directly into the face of the goon, knocking off every piece of clothing in mid air and landing naked onto the street. This punch was not only powerful but extremely funny since it was so deadly that it was able to strip off every item of clothing while doing so. If you haven't checked out the Durarara!! series we highly suggest you do so, along with its second season too!

Meliodas was a fan favorite among many anime fan for his big heart and bright personality. His relationship with Elizabeth was entertaining as they seemed like the perfect couple, while Diana looked on with jealousy. In this episode Ban and Meliodas square off in a tournament to retrieve Diana's hammer since it was stolen by the enemy. The two of them have fought before since they've been friends for a very long time, but Ban is aware of Meliodas' true strength. Unfortunately throughout the match Ban seems to forget that and as he is about to unleash his final blow eliminating Meliodas from the tournament, Meliodas delivers an incredible counter attack that even the human eye couldn't keep up with sending Ban flying out the ring. Without noticing, Elizabeth yells out to Meliodas thinking that he had been defeated but when the smoke clears Meliodas winks at Elizabeth reminding her he's alright. The camera then pans over to a building far in the distance where we can see Ban motionless in between the rocks further cementing the win for Meliodas. This was a spectacular scene because at first we couldn't tell what had happened due to the sheer speed that the punch was delivered, but once everything was explained we could clearly see why Ban ended up where he did.

Medaka Box was a great anime that released around the spring of 2012 and showcased a lot of fantastic action scenes, one of which we'll share with you. In this two episode fight, Medaka unleashes her fury on Unzen who had been terrorizing her for a very long time. Unable to suppress her emotions, she transforms into her second state and dashes her way towards Unzen. With marbles in his hand, Unzen also proceeds to dash towards her but with incredible speed Medaka delivers the first crushing blow digging her fist all the way into Unzen's stomach knocking the marbles out of his hand. This super punch sent Unzen flying through a library of concrete walls spewing blood from out of his mouth from the severe pain. This scene was very endearing to watch because Unzen was clearly mocking Medaka and that didn't seem to sit too well with her, and so to quiet him down she took matters into her own hands putting an end to his annoying banter.

Coming in at number four on our top anime punches has to be one of the greatest battles in anime history. The Frieza Saga was arguably one of the best of the entire Dragonball Z storyline, because of how many emotional ups and downs we had to experience while watching. The most emotional is when Krillin, Goku's childhood friend, loses his life at the hands of Frieza enraging Goku allowing him to transform into super saiya-jin. At this point Goku coerced Frieza to stop toying with him and go into his final form, which he agreed to do. Both at their full potential, Frieza tries to make the first move but Goku immediately avoids the attack unleashing us own explosive punch digging deep into Frieza's gut leaving him wincing in pain. All you can see is Goku standing over him as Frieza's eyes bulge out while trying to find a source of oxygen. The screen blurs out to show the power of Goku's punch and how it left Frieza in a dizzying state. Akira Toriyama created a golden moment here because it showed Goku's burning desire to avenge his fallen friends, and to also protect the Planet Namek which Frieza threatened to destroy. This is most certainly a must watch for any anime fan out there, because you'll truly be blown away.

3. Terraformars – Macross Uppercut [Episode 4]

3 E04 Terra Formars Capture
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Episode 4" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 13 " aired=" September 27, 2014 – December 20, 2014 "]

We truly loved Terraformars for not only its education on insects and their methods of killing, but also for its incredible action scenes that blew us away. One very good example is in episode four when Macross and his team are up against a horde of roaches, and he must avenge Sheila since she was such an inspiration to him. Filled with immense rage, Macross dashes towards one roach driving his knee into its face similar to Sagat from Street Fighter, then being confronted again by another. With his blood boiling beyond comprehension he makes a quick dash towards the second enemy and proceeds with a shoryuken style uppercut that sends the roach head flying into the air in slow motion. At this very moment, your jaw drops at the incredible power of one punch that immediately kills the enemy and just in awe at the sheer bravery that Macross had to take on an entire group of Terraformars. If you haven't tuned into Terraformars yet, this may be the perfect time to since the show is wrapping up and the action is just unraveling.

2. Hajime no Ippo: Rising – New Dempsey Roll [Episode 13]

2-E13 Hajime no Ippo Capture
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Episode 13" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 25 " aired=" October 6, 2013 – March 29, 2014 "]

Pound for pound Hajime no Ippo has the highest knockout percentage out of all anime, with every blow that is given making you wince in pain by the very sight of it. We chose it as number two because despite the New Dempsey Roll creating such an explosive impact, Saitama kills his opponents with one deadly blow and you can't really beat that. Nonetheless Makunouchi proves to us that he doesn't need a bald head or a yellow outfit to send his opponent to the next dimension, as you'll see in episode 13 of Hajime no Ippo Rising. Makunouchi squares off against longtime rival Ryuuhei Sawamura in a match to defend the title, and Sawamura had come prepared for Makunouchi's Dempsey Roll with a list of counter attacks to prevent being punished. While the counters had shown a lot of potential throughout the match, it was towards the final rounds where Makunouchi unleashed his New Dempsey Roll which completely countered Sawamura's counters, with every single blow hitting like a freight train leaving Sawamura helpless in the rapid succession of attacks coming his way. Each punch revved up like the engine of a car, and every bend increasing in speed like a fighter jet leaving Sawamura open to every shot to the face. In the end, Makunouchi unleashes his final blow stretching Sawamura's neck past human calculations leaving his eyes protruding out of his sockets like a frog. Makunouchi takes the title and walks out of the ring a champion yet again.

1. One Punch Man – Sea King KO Punch [Episode 9]

One Punch Man E09
[sourceLink asin="" asin_jp="" text="Episode 9" url="" ]
[Information episodes=" 12 " aired=" October 5, 2015 – December 21, 2015 "]

This number one should come as no surprise since the title itself says it all. Punching its way to number one is none other than Saitama himself, from One Punch Man. In episode 9 The Sea King continues to terrorize much of the city while the citizens remain helpless. Genos tries to hold off the king by throwing out an onslaught of attacks, nearly defeating the mammoth creature. Unfortunately none of it scathed him, and he returned the favor by spitting acid in order to kill the townspeople but Genos intercepted the acid ball rendering him useless. Mumen Rider makes his way to the scene and tries his best to overpower the beast but instead gets tossed to the corner like a rag doll, his entire pride shattered in one blow. Shortly after that Saitama walks in nonchalantly and confronts The Sea King, interrupting his introduction causing him to become enraged and throws out a massive punch. Within mere seconds all you can see is a big gaping hole in the middle of the king's body, his eye ball dangling out of his socket while the rest of his corpse comes crashing down to the ground in a massive heap. You can see how much force went into the punch simply by observing the wind that came out of Saitama's fist, blowing the crown off the king's head. We chose this as our number one simply because of how explosive the punch was, and how very quickly it ended the bout. Saitama just stands there as if it's just another day while the crowd cheers him on in victory. That is certainly a knockout punch we could never forget, and so we recommend you go and check out One Punch Man to see more wicked punches!

Final Thoughts

There is a huge library of celebrated knockout punches that we could talk about for days, but these ones just made our teeth chatter because of how destructive they were. Whether it came from a spell or just the raw brute force from within, any punch that sends your opponent flying is worth noting. Some anime that almost made the list were One Piece, Bleach, and Grappler Baki just to name a few. So if you have your own favorite knockout punch that you'd like to share, be sure to leave it down in the comments section and let us know how you felt after watching it. As always, for your sweet anime fill, keep it locked here at Honey's Anime.

Gintoki Sakata is an unconventional samurai who works as a “Yorozuya” or a person who offers to do almost anything for a fee. Accompanied by two other bizarre characters and an oversized dog, they try to do odd jobs that often lead them to very unfortunate and funny circumstances. Despite Gintama’s signature humor and funny references, the anime itself has a serious side to it. Entering our number six spot is a bloody battle against Gintoki and Takasugi. A big part of this impressive battle is the build-up using flashbacks on when they first met. You can somehow share their emotions during the fight and it was brutally beautiful to watch. The swordsmanship displayed by these two warriors is just awesome. If you are craving for an action-comedy anime, Gintama is the answer.

It is hard to think of the most impressive battle scene for this particular anime because every fight is just mind blowing awesomeness.
